Since Michiana is pretty much devoid of good, independent/alternative rock (unless you like seeing REO and Styx for the umpteenth time), I'm going to do an article on ways people can stay up to date on concerts, specifically ones in Chicago since the second greatest music city in the world is ~2 hrs away. I primarily use the Early Warnings from the Chicago Reader. Every week, an email is sent out (or you can check the website) that lists the announced tours and when tickets will go on sale. It also lists shows for almost up to 8 months in advance. If anyone is playing Chicago, it is listed in the Early Warnings.

I also frequent pitchforkmedia.com and to a lesser extent, pollstar.com, because pollstar is mostly mainstream crap, but you'll find other good bands listed there. Tourfilter.com is also an excellent resource, and it compiles listings from many cities. Old-fashioned searching of ticketmaster.com is also good, but it doesn't have anything beyond 90 days (it also for some reason won't let me search listings in DC, go figure). I guess rollingstone.com would be deece, too, but I never go there so I don't know. Of course, newspapers and radio also are a source for finding out about concerts.

They sucked 30 years ago. I doubt they are any better today.

The Local Alternative does a fine job enlightening the masses with its Web presence (965thebuzz.com) and on-air pimping of upcoming shows. But for those bands deemed to be too sell-out, indie, or underground for the Buzz's playlist, one can turn to pitch.com for a comprehensive schedule. All bands listed have hyperlinks to their Websites, and chances are that bands that elect to play here in the Bell-weather will most certainly be playing a venue near you soon.

Weekly Reader

This is a weekly free paper that you can pick up all over town. It pretty much covers everything going on around town from small clubs to arena shows, theater, movies, sports etc... Also has regular columns that are pretty funny reads. If you are ever in San Diego looking for something to do this is pretty much the goto source.

Was kinda my thought on the topic. I'd be suprised if any larger city didn't have such a street rag that lists even the smallest of no-name shows. We have more than one of those around here, surely they must elsewhere.

Every time I hit the pre-set button for that station the last year or so there's either a commercial playing or some dipshits rambling on incessantly and inanely about shit I. don't. care. about. Can't catch 'em playing actual music anymore, and what little they do play sucks out loud. You don't actually listen to that garbage? Say it ain't so.

99.7 The Blvd or 105.1 Jack FM and occasionally 94.9 Oldies and ever so rarely 101.1 The Fox for me.

Thank God and GOD they finally put Max, Tana, and Moffit out their misery, and this time for good.

I could give a flip about the nickname, red flag or not. I listen to the stations that play the least amount of music that doesn't suck.

Houston is by far the worst city in the world when it comes to FM radio. I don't think I've been tuned into a Houston FM radio station in over 2 years. I-Pod takes care of that.

I'll listen to The Cablanasian's AM talk show in the afternoons. Pretty funny stuff.

All commercial radio stations suck. Some suck less than others. I jump around constantly, trying to avoid the suckage as much as possible.
