If I were a Michigan fan I wouldn't be counting down the days until the start of the season, I'd be counting down the days until the start of the 2010 season because that's the next time they'll have a shot to win more than 6 or 7 games. Not really much to look forward to these next couple of years in Ann Arbor.

it's a shame we don't have that iowa gimme this year and will have to settle for eight wins instead of nine. your analysis of michigan football once included "james whitley is good." your predictions aren't given with much authority.

Actually I am quite content to countdown to this season. Unlike fans of tier two universities (see Iowa) I support my team regardless of expectations. Plus, I am excited to see how things are going to go. On top of that every day that Ferentz isn't our coach is a good day.

Fuck yeah!! It's an exciting time to be a Wolverine. After a long search UM pulled a great coach to lead them into the future. Some dipshits (noJ, Herbstreit, etc.) think times will be lean this year. Does anyone really think that RR is going to jam his scheme down the teams throat at the expense of the entire season? If this is your belief, you'd be wrong. RR is a great offensive mind. His explosive offensives were derived out of a need to compete against teams with better and bigger talent. Now at UM he has the better, bigger, and faster talent. It is my belief that he will tailor a scheme to accent the positives and help negate some of the negatives (o-line weakness appears glaring). The defense will be very good, the offense will finish better than 9th in the conference, which is where it was a year ago even with Henne, Hart, Manningham, Long, and Arrington. I'm not looking to win the Big10, but when the bowl streak is extended and RR locks up a top five class next year with talent to suit his system, look out!
Yes my friends it is indeed a great time to be a Wolverine.
Go Blue!

Are you fucking kidding me Blindref? Unlike fans of lower tier schools you support your team regardless??
That's the dumbest thing ever said on a message board on about 5 fucking thousand levels.
I'll name a few...
#1 you're a fucking idiot
#2 it's easy for a fan of a school like Michigan to always support their team.....you always win 9-10 games you fucking dolt. You root for them "regardless"??? Regardless of what, dipshit???
#3 I support my team regardless. Iowa fans support their team regardless. We sell out every fucking game, dolt. We have a 70,000 seat stadium in a state that has the same amount of BCS schools as the state of Michigan and probably not even 1/5 the population.
#4 In 2005 Iowa and Michigan were both 7-4. Michigan beat Iowa. Iowa got the better bowl bid. Why, tard? Because we travel better.
#5 I've never been to Michigan Stadium on gameday. But EVERY fan of any school that's ever attended a game there has said how fucking lame your crowd is. It's not called Michigan Library for nothing.
#6 Fans of many lower tier schools support their team as well or better than Michigan.
#7 you're a douchebag, now go off yourself.

And for the record, I get excited for football about mid-August. It's baseball season. My mind is on the Royals, not the Hawkeyes. Baseball is my favorite sport and the Royals are my favorite team. Iowa is 2nd.

I thought Indiana was your second favorite team, you know, because they tried harder?
Just a tip, you shouldn't be calling anyone a dolt.

After last season was wasted I'm really looking forward to this one. Judging from our recruiting Bo's regime needs to hit the ground running. The players are excited but recruits of-note aren't, we are already making some disturbing stretches in the offer-department. We have offered kids we should've at-least waited til after summmercamp for and even into the season to really see what they have and to see how things are shaking-out recruiting-wise. This staff is very light on snake-oil, we gotta show something on the field. Since we are running the same O and it was really rolling once Ganz got his shot we should be good on that side of the ball. With a wealth at rb, losses at wr, and a new, more physical blocking-scheme we'll be a little more grounded attack. Hard to say what we'll see on D. After the absolute freaking joke our D was in '07 it can only be better. Bo is really pushing aggression, fundamentals, gang-tackling, and forcing turnovers. My guess is we'll see an alright D that improves over the season and makes a solid amount of big plays. The 12-sched is going to be tough, I wouldn't pencil-in any wins outside of Baylor visiting Lincoln. I think we'll win more than we lose, after that hard to say.

nice post, danimal. i'm looking forward to seeing western michigan help nebraska start the bo pelini era 0-1. the broncos season finale last year was a win over iowa (sup noj?) and the huskers are trying to undo all the bullshit from the bc era. i think the huskers are more than ripe for the picking.

No, we'd be exactly right. He did it when he took over the WVU job, taking a decent team that ran a pro style type of offense and finished 7-5 in '00, and
dropped all of that to implement his scheme. The result was 3-8. But then, it was followed by 9-4.
This year will be tough for UofM, but tough is relative. I think they will be right around .500.

Because young teams with little experience and a new coach tend to lose a couple games they shouldn't. That's my point about Michigan. They're gonna have a couple games where you go "now, how in the fuck did they lose to them?"

Hardly, moron. Opening weekend is the best time to play a NU program in flux. I'd rather play them in the opener than midway or at the end of the season.

comparing michigan and wvu is like camparing apples and genetically-modified super apples. dickrod's going to implement his scheme, no doubt, but it's an offense he can tailor to his personnel. everyone talks about "his scheme" like our 7'4" 5.8 40 qb is going to be running the option. the schedule's too favorable to be talking about how lucky michigan will be to finish .500 or make a bowl game, not to mention we're not hurting for talent. it's raw, but it's there, and considering reports of how playing time under carr was awarded politically, it's possible to have some very good players in the cupboard that'll make a difference right away.

First-games do tend to see a fair amount of screw-ups and we are a team in transition.
Thing to see will be how our aggression is used. Afte the abomination that was '07 this team want to get back on the damn field. Plus you ad the Bo-factor, dude can motivate like a muther. The team will be bouncing off the walls and the crowd will be pumped. Maybe we go hog-wild on WMU, but possibly we trip over our dicks.
We'll be helped by keeping our OC and running an augmented version of BC's offense. Ganz has shown he can lead our O, with a solid rushing-attack we should be able to settle-down and grind-it-out if need be. I'm worried a bit about our ST's, we were fumbling returns in the spring-game. That is the kind of crap that can turn games.
But considering what we saw last year I don't see us taking any opponent lightly, we know we should've lost to Ball and that WMU beat Iowa. We should be ready for a fight, I know Bo has already started on game-films.
It is possible we lose but I don't know if we are ripe enough for the upset to be completed, wouldn't surprise me to win ugly but we should still get the W. The key for WMU will be to have success early-take the crowd out of the game and crack Neb's still-fragile confidence. If that happens it is anyone's game. If we get rolling early look-out, it could get fugly. These kids want to make a statement.

"Shrew" and "meltdowns" are forever synonymous.
The "Smack Rolodex" revolves and evolves, yet inevitably winds up with your card out front.
Big Huskerfan over here, at least for one week. The Shrew melt should be epic.

We are treading on new horizon's, however with a "tradition coalition" mentallity.
NU has many unanswered questions...but we ain't losing to W. Michigan... why?...Callahan is gone!
Nebraska's efforts will mean something in every game...not just the ones that a mental midget coach, that had no connection to want NU football really means to the people of this state, felt were important.
We automatically became 50 places better on defense the day Cosgrove was fired.
Add another 20 places when Pelini was hired.
The offense will be top 4 or 5 in the Big 12.
