Heard on the radio this morning from John McClain that the owners are going to opt out of the current CBA that is signed through 2013. The deal currently gives players 60% of the revenue and the owners aren't happy about it.
McClain says when the owners do opt out, the deal will expire at the end of the 2009 season leaving 2010 as a no cap year which means The Dan will probably ruin it for everyone. Its possible we could have a strike/lockout in 2011 on our hands if the players get a taste of a non-capped year.
I think the players should agree to 50% and squash this deal. They definitely need to work towards being taken care of on the back end with better retired players benefits.

Re: NFL Owners Meetings
When we hear of these lucrative contracts signed by players, does that include revenue sharing income or is the 60% they get from revenue sharing the "icing on the cake".
If it is, then I can't understand Upshaw's balking at helping out some of the older ball players that laid the ground work and helped build this franchise - who can't walk anymore.
If by "The Dan" you mean Snyder - I'm afraid he and his buddy Vinny would fuck up a wet dream. So just because he's got deep pockets and a "no cap" loophole to work with doesn't get my hopes up.

Yeah, I don't know what that means either. If the revenue is included into the salaries of the players, then wouldn't the %age of the revenue fluctuate? It must be on top of the the salary where it has to do with signing bonuses and what not.

Well I reckon it's official now. The owners have opted out. We have THREE more years of football guaranteed - 2011-2012 season is up for dispute.
Say, didn't the Mayan calendar say something about the world ending in 2012 ?

If there's one certainty in pro sports, it's that billionaire owners and millionaire players have no qualms about fighting over who gets to be first to wring the neck of the golden goose, fans be damned. When the owners opted out of the CBA for those extra years, they put the union on notice that the big guys aren't making enough money and they're willing to bust a cap in the league's collective foot to ensure that that situation is reversed. Problem is, just as with all league/union negotiations, there is the slimmest of chances that they might come to an agreement in the next couple of years if they actually tried, but they won't. They'll wait until a month before the 2011 season is about to start before they even sit down to START negotiating seriously.RumpleForeskin wrote:Its possible we could have a strike/lockout in 2011 on our hands if the players get a taste of a non-capped year.
Just like in 1987, we can all look forward to a minimum of five games of high school gym teachers and parole agents wearing NFL uniforms and running around like barefoot illegals trying to cross the Arizona desert in August. Heyyyyyyyy...wait a second....Jerry Rice did set the record for most touchdowns in a season that year, even though he missed all of the strike games, so this may be a plus for SF fans. STRIKE! STRIKE! STRIKE!
