I've seen computers get virii very quickly after reformatting. Do you use a router and firewall?

A firewall will stop that shit right away.

Whats your Operating System? If you install Windows XP, it comes with a firewall now so you can be safe while you update. Alternatively, download all your updates, patches, applications and throw them on a CD...then format, re-install and update your PC before you connect it to the internet. Using a SOHO router/firewall from D-Link, Linksys, netgear, etc... will also save you a lot of hastles and allow you to connect multiple PCs at the same time. If you have dial up, you can get some routers for that as well, but not nearly as cheap. You are better off upgrading to DSL/Cable or just use a software firewall like ZoneAlarm (free). (download it before you format and install before you go online).
