Quagmire and really didn't do much but create more anti-American sentiment throughout Europe and rest of the globe. They went in without an exit strategy and succeeded at setting up temporary puppet regimes in Europe for awhile. But the Europeans hated us, still do despeite the Bilderberg Group.
Created the foundation of the Military Industrial Complex, got Higgins rich and several other cronies of Prescott Bush.

Rumps, if you've ever come to Virginia. Be sure to try and check out the D-Day memorial.
http://www.dday.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It's in Bedford, not far from Roanoake, VA. Task Force "O", seasoned vets from the 1st Infantry Division and attachments from the 29th Infantry Division, one unit the 116th Regiment pulled soldiers from the surrounding hills along the Blue Ridge. One town, Bedford, lost 19-20 out of the 35 on the beach that day. That's why they selected Bedford for the site. Bunch of hillbillies who probably didn't even know where the fuck Normandy was.
Tremendous courage of those men, the men who planned it, decided to give the go ahead., All the espionage - propaganda and LIES - involved in that mission being successful. Fascinating bit of history.

Does it even dawn on you how incredibly stupid you make yourself look when you try to draw comparisons between WWII and the current clusterfuck in Iraq?

WWII wasn't a clusterfuck?
9,387 American soldiers are buried at the Normandy cemetary, all killed in a matter of days, not years.

Be it satire, sarcasm or just plain snark, Tom has made a comparison that is straight up retarded.

Hey BSmack, that wasn't a comparison to today's war in Iraq. I know the word "quagmire" threw you off but last I checked the word isn't solely reserved for the current war in Iraq.
2 : a difficult, precarious, or entrapping position : predicament
You don't think our assistance in WWII and consequential allied victory put the U.S. into a difficult, precarious or entrapping position ?

There was no sarcasm in Tom's post.
B_Smack came along and said "You're an idiot".
Dins and Smackie showed up, misinterpreted Tom's keyboard retardation as wit and said "Hey, that's sarcasm".
Tom returned to say, "Yeah...uhhh...I...uhhh...I was being sarcastic...yeah that's it..."
The end.

Who said I was being sarcastic ? Are you trying to tell me that people don't/didn't perceive WWII and U.S. involvment in it in such a manner ?
Explain what you mean "retardation", anything I say in it that isn't based in fact .... albeit cynically skewed perception of fact ?
Elaborate.

Well I don't view the events of WWII that way. So maybe I was being sarcastic.
But what's that got to do with the fact:
1. I wasn't comparing WWII to Iraq.
2. The fact that everything I stated is based in FACT.
Just because I'm typically up front about things, doesn't mean I show all my cards, Marty. So are you going to pony up and dispute what I said in the post or just try and play games ?
1. Did our post-war presence in Europe increase anti-american feelings ?
2. Did our post-war presence in Asia increase anti-american feelings ?
3. Have we "exitted" Europe ?
4. Wasn't the building of our current Military Industrial blah blah a consequential result of WWII ?
5. Did people get rich off WWII ?
I'm tickled that you care for BSmack so much and hate to see him cry like that, but neither of you two have even bothered to address the fact, that while my tone was sarcastic, the facts upon which the content was based are TRUTH.
Also, the fact that opinion exists, and existed during WWII - I.E. That we shouldn't have been there, war to get people rich, etc.. etc.. all the same shit we hear today is also true.
Eat a dick.

Maybe if you didn't invade, Hitler and Stalin would have wiped each other out.
You saved Stalin's hide. I should be grateful for that.

Too bad there wasn't a platoon of stanley srs hitting the beaches. Short fuckers like Stan senior could have run right under the bullets, at least at low tide.
Of course, cowardice would be a factor.
Never mind. Better to use real soldiers than a bunch of miniature cowardly hypocrites.

somehow the tuskegee airkniggers are glorified as incredible superior and fearless pilots.
Um...the only person interested in comparing their skill and bravery to other ethnic groups of pilots would be you. Presumably, you use the same criteria in selecting which ethnic group you'll hire to mercilessly hammer your ruined prostate each night. Interesting how you opt for Mother Africa pretty much each time.
