How about "most underrated guitar player"?

At present, I might have to go with the mighty Todd Rundgren...

Who I might be going to see in about a month, assuming the chick who invited me still digs the Dinscock.

Best producer ever, and a fine, fine prog and all-around geetarist.

He might have even contributed to a certain sig VVVVVVVVV

How about "pound-for-pound best guitarist"? I doubt Wata is even 100 lbs, and she fucking shreds...

Going to see Boris in a couple weeks. It's going to be awesome.

Speaking of, I can go check out Spoon, The Presidents of the United States of America, and Nada Surf friday night, at awayyyy cool venue, but they want entirely too much for tix.

I'd pretty much be going for POTUSA, a U&L favorite on an occasion.

And/or, I can go see Nu Shooz saturday night... with "The Valarie Day Orchestra"...

I can't wait...

Also seen ads for Billy Rancher and the Unreal Gods shows lately.

Billy Rancher = FUCKING AWESOME. Incredible U&L guitarist/musician.

Catch to the scenario = Billy died well over 20 years ago. The world lost an all-time great guitar virtuoso. But we can rejoice, because apparently, they Ted Williamsed his body, and can prop him up on stage to lay down some mean rigor-licks.

Hmmm.... Go see a guy who died 25 years ago, or go see a band/chick that many of us U&Lers wish died about 25 ears ago (don't tell my good buddy that I dissed the song... Nu Shooz only had one, that he helped remix to the tune of top-40 gold).

Ba-da-da-da-da da-da-da ba-da-da-da da-da, I can't wait to get that song back out of my head

Maybe I'll just stay in instead.

I'm driving down to Tucson next week to see Hayden. The show promoters here in PHX must suck to deal with, because a lot of indie/mid-level tours have been passing us up in favor of Tucson and/or Flagstaff.

Dins,
Do you like Band of Horses? Good stuff, if you're into the whole "guys with beards singing sad songs" shtick.

Damn. I figured when rolled the name of the most influential behind-the-scenes guy in the history of rock music, the old timers would have this thread out to 4 pages by now.

Nothing ever grows in this rotten old hole
And everything is studied and lost
And nothing really rocks and nothing really rolls
And nothing's really worth the cost

well, TR did lock XTC in the studio for a week or something when they were making Skylarking. I'm kinda of a TR fan. One of my buddies growing up is a true Todd-head and that had some influence for me. saw him a couple times in the 90's, was a great show both times. not real sure what he was thinking with that Cars reunion thing, though.

I'd go see Boris. haven't seen on any of the summer slates at the Boulder/Denver venues.

Actually, these days Partridge is a little more graceful about TR and the Skylarking sessions. I guess they butted heads at the time, but there's no denying that Rundgren put together something special there.

I'm really looking forward to seeing them. Only 6 days away. Torche is on the bill too (both here and Denver). They're pretty awesome in their own right.

agree with that. i bought that LP when it first came out and had the version without Dear God (it was added later, after it went big on MTV)....but the whole TR continuous concept LP works much better without Dear God. and as far as the continuous song thing, side 2 of the Tubes LP "Love Bomb" was produced by TR and kind of playing around with it. The Tubes booted Fee Waybill and had to muddle on to finish the LP without him. it's pretty interesting. i used to listen to it back in the day; not a Tubes fan at all and probably never listened to Side 1 all the way through. but, side 2 is kinda cool. Glen Tilbrook's on it. it sounds a little dated today and not suggesting anyone buy it, but there's something there that's a part of the TR innovating production catalog.

TR, eh?

Hello, it's AP
I've thought about trolls for a long, long time
Maybe I drink too much but something's wrong
There's something silky covering up my schlong
Now where'd I go and put that cam of mine?

Saggy manboobs
I'm seeing them through dried up manjuice
I take for granted the XXXL underwear
I take for granted that you just won't share
Sometime I just can't see things all the way through

It's disgusting to me
Cause these panties ain't clean
And I long to change diapers professionally

Drink with me
You know that I would smack you if I could
I'll come around to see you once in a while
And always find myself at the bottom of the pile
And make the 'Chives if you think I should...
