In case you haven't read me yelling about it before, the PA Liquor Control Board is a fucking NIGHTMARE.

Alcohol cannot be sold in supermarkets - neither beer nor wine nor booze.

Many arguments hover out there like clouds of methane...safety, preventing underage drinkers, blah blah and blah.

It's all bullshit - the real reason is the state operates a fucking MONOPOLY and doesn't want that to change.

As far as I know, every state in the US of A is different. You can walk in to a grocery store and buy a fucking bottle of beer, once you provide a valid ID and the fistful of nickles and dimes.

Occasionally, we are treated to monumental displays of their brilliance...here is the latest:

So basically, they're looking to set up wine kiosks in supermarkets instead of just doing what everyone else does. These kiosks will sift through some :rts: to see if you're 21, if you're currently inebriated, and if your behavior needs to be stored in a "problem drinker" :rts:.

Who thinks this is a good idea? The lone bidder on the kiosk contract, of course - and the folks who benefit from the monopoly. The final slap is the packaging of this idea as a "consumer convenience". BWAAAAHAHAHAHA! Yep, sounds great. Look, dear - they've got 8 different wine choices in the kiosk! I can let it scan my print, rattle through the parking authority database, check to see if I have been identified as a problem drinker already, or if that's something that should happen now. Oh, the convenience!

We cab buybeer and wine anywhere, at will (unless you're underaged or visibly intoxicated) between 7:30AM and 2:30AM.

Distilled spirits must be purchased at the state gestapo-run bottle stores. At least as of a few years ago, they're open Sundays and holidays (at the discretion of the oppressed store owner). Except in very rural areas, where they can have a separate, cordoned-off liquor section in grocery/small town stores.


The liquor control commission also runs the lottery. And regulates te injun casinos.

Rumor has it, the high ranking officials wear pinky rings, as well.

There's been a couple of citizen ballot initiatives to abolish the state control, and go to a free market system similar to that in california, which has much more sane liquor laws than most (RACK the Liquor Barn in Redding-btw). The initiatives easily recieved the required number of signatures to go to ballot... yet never showed up. Neither did the authors of the bills, who always seem to succumb to some sort of "hiking accident" right about the time their troublemaking is reaching its peak... this is Oregon, after all, and anyone who threatens to expose corruption at the state level always ends up dead in a freakish, yet easily explainable by the coroner "accident."


Get a still. Make your own. Produce ethanol and get a huge tax break by registering your still. Or don't, and just make booze... don't make yourself blind-btw.

You're forgetting Delaware and New Jersey. Maryland also has very limited alcohol sales at grocery stores. I know from personal experience that finding a sixer in a Massachusetts grocery store is damn near impossible. And lest we forget Rhode Island, where Cueball will never be able to purchase his favorite beer in a grocery store.

I lived in a Boston suburb a while back - I know ALL TOO FUCKING WELL how easy it is to get a 6 of GOOD SHIT - CHEAP - in a grocery store.

Missouri also has some of the lowest gasoline and tobacco taxes in the country, which explains all the Kansas fuckheads decked out in Gayhawk gear lining up at every convenience store just over the state line.

Virginia you can buy beer, wine, and a few of those "Mikes Hard Lemonade" type drinks at 7-11, Grocery Stories, Gas Stations with convenience stores in them from 6:00 AM (maybe 7) until - 12:00 AM.


VA ABC Stores only sell the hard stuff from 9-9 M-S and as of a few years ago they opened on Sunday.


Of course you can get liquored up at any bar until 2:30 AM and drive home.

When I lived in Richmond, I remember having my hand on the beer fridge handle at 11:59:59, ready to pull - and the auto-locks clicked in. Sure, I just walked across the street to the bar, but the idea made me :brad:

Don't get me started on dumb beer laws. Ct, or more accurately the Ct packy owner's mafia runs this state when it comes to matters concerning getting yourself lit up.

You can buy beer in supermarkets before 9 PM and any day other than sunday. You CANNOT buy beer at an establishment that has gas pumps. Yup, you read that right. This takes damn near every convenience store in the state out of the bidness.

I'm sure it's all about the sacred "public safety". Why, you can't buy at a cumberland farms with gas pumps. You might start pumping, run inside and buy a 30 pack of bub rice and shotgun it while waiting for the pump to click off. This would be dangerous you see and we can't have that.

But, atleast we don't have ABC stores here.

The bestest state, that I know of for liquor purchases is New Hampshire. They have the lowest taxes, in NE anyway, no, that ain't nebraska, dumbfukks. They are so proud of their alcohol friendly status that they have a NH turnpike (I-95) rest area which is a bigass package store.

I have never done a trip to maine without stopping at that fukking place.

As for rules prohibiting already fukked up dudes from buying more, I don't get it. What's the harm? Dude is already shitfaced.

Around here they pass all that stuff out for free from every other streetcorner, 24 hours a day.

East Texas gets a little strange. Parts of it have dry counties and if you want to drink in establishments that serve open liquors and beer, then you usually have to pay for a membership of that establishment.

No real problems in Houston other than you can't puchase liquor (unopened container) on Sundays where it is sold only in liquor stores.

Agreed. Blue laws of any kind that ban the sale of liquor on Sundays or limit what you can buy and where do nothing but generate tax $$ in neighboring counties or states (if you're close to the border).

You're slipping, dude. First the SEC game in November slip and now this? Notice I said "check'in" vs. "carry on." I always travel with a carry on size bag that I check in on the flight out (to carry a bottle) and carry it on on the way back. Call me a cheap ass that way, but it is more about convenience. That way, I don't have to pay $70 for a small bottle at the hotel liquor store nor do Ihave to worry about local liquor laws as I usually travel on a Sunday.

In other words, I bring my liquor on business trips so I can have a few drinks in my room before and after dinner. I don't hang out at bars on business trips as I usually go solo so i'd rather kick back in my room with a few drinks and a PPV movie (yes, sometimes THAT kind).

Yeah, and the rule is 3.4 oz. too. Found that out the hard way. Had a brand new bottle of cologne that cost me $80 when I went to Orlando a couple months ago. Same thing as usual. Checked in the carry on size bag with a bottle of Jack in it. Carried on on the way back. Unfortunately, I had the 4.5 oz. bottle of cologne that I was told could not go on the plane. I could either check in the bag or give up the cologne. As I was already in line for 1.5 hours at security and my flight was leaving in 45 minutes, I said fuck it. I've since bought a 2.5 oz. bottle of my cologne. Fucking TSA...
