just thought i'd mention this, a power tag-team duo concert that shouldn't be missed, especially to see mates of state, who i am still dying to see live. if i heard running out, beautiful dreamer and think long live, i'd be so content i'd retire from the interwesb forever.

Mr Smalls is owned by Liz Berlin from Rusted Root - a goddawful "flow band". She took the spoils and renovated an old church in a working class neighborhood. It's a decent indie venue, I have to say. I'll definitely post my thoughts on this show, and possibly a PET.

If I didn't have shit going on, I'd make the roadie. Never even been to the Burgh, strangely enough.
Re: headlights, mates of state in shittsburgh wed 6/18 and south
They don't take kindly to Michigan flatlander pussies down here. I'd protect you from Rusted Root's singer, though. I'd love to whack him with a lead pipe, given a good excuse.

That's because you posers fully understand where the BIG TEN POWAH resides.
Re: headlights, mates of state in shittsburgh wed 6/18 and south
we reluctantly chose to visit shittsburgh because it was the earliest, most convenient sordid clambake for us all to see pearl jam for the first time in 03. we would of went to the 314 on my b-day in 03 if i would have had my way. but finals and all that other crap comes first.
but i did thoroughly enjoy my time in the burg. as told before, saw pj sat night at civic arena, saw a bucs game sun afternoon, and saw the flaming lips at now defunct metropol on sun night. smoked down on the banks of the river by pnc before the game and got a ride on the boat across the river after that. add that all into three days, you can't ask for a better weekend. i doubt the lips will ever play live what is the light?--->the observer ever again, and i saw that shit in the burgh.
the hill at carnegie mellon is also very fucking cool. talk about a great place to take pics.
wolf parade should really play shittsburgh. and you turds should go to the mates and headlights show.

Thank fucking god, I hated that hellhole.
Because of PA's wonderful LCB, at 18+ shows you have to get into a PEN and drink there. If the Mates show this Wednesday is one of those, I'm going to rip some people apart. I saw Ted Leo there a couple of years ago and sat in the PEN with my $5 Rolling Rocks. FUCK that noise, I'll bring in a flask, I swear.
We were on Flagstaff Hill two nights ago, for a Cinema In the Park event, MEATWASHERS. Pret-aaay, pret-aaay awesome.

psu, you're not the only one who found that odd. when i saw the lips at metropol, i literally had only been 21 for five days, so all the whole bar shit was new to me. but i did find it extremely odd that at a concert, the only place you could buy beer was up on the second level, enclosed (i believe), with the shittiest view of the stage possible. you're at a fucking CONCERT in a enclosed part of the place, and you're the ones buying booze. seems to go against every smart business decision.PSUFAN wrote:now defunct metropol

i also learned that night to be extremely careful with any contraband in a small venue. and your flask idea isn't a bad idea. just be prepared to dump it if necessary.
is flagstaff hill you're talking about the carnegie mellon hill? i don't know my head from my ass in that town except for bits and pieces.
Re: headlights, mates of state in shittsburgh wed 6/18 and south
Yeah, that's the one.
BTW - I had no fucking idea that Mates had released something new...?? I grabbed Rearrange Us the other day - holy shit! Awesome

BTW, Screw... might wanna be a little less of an indiedouche, and maybe think things through a little better in the future...
That way, you might be able to control your raging zeal to try and look cool, and maybe next time you won't have Bryan Adams lyrics as your sig.
You're welcome.

I guess at this point, we get into a huge semantics debate, as to whether Screwey wears a douche, as your usuage implies; uses a douche, as the typical definition might insinuate; or whether he is, in fact, a giant douche.
I'll go with the latter.
A mondo-massive douche.
A gas-powered douche.
A douche of critical mass.
We're talking a sizable douche here.

Uhm... no.
Sorry, bud... it is I who gets to play the "thanks for playing" card, if I'm so inclined (which I never am, since it's one of the great white-flags of smack).
Sorry douche, you did indeed post Bryan Adams lyrics.

Anyway, it was awesome. No PET. I eyed the camera, and decided I just wanted to go and enjoy myself. Mission accomplished.
That was the first I'd seen MoS live. They're simply incredible. They have articulated their material so well, that it's virtually indistinguishable from what you hear on the studio recordings. Yeah - they had two guys playing cello, trumpet, guitar, and violin, but those pieces were very much textural - they never really relied on them.
They're both strong singers, and they have established some flawless harmonies. My wife is still at the point where she is simply jealous of what they are doing...I'm past that, I just take it in and enjoy it.
This was one of the better shows I've seen in recent years. Try to catch them soon - you won't regret it.
Headlights...they're just not in the same league, which is not a rip on them by any means. They were good, but not great. I really enjoy their recordings, but they are still finding themselves as a live band, IMO...unless I caught them on an off night.
My wife and I felt pretty old at that show. At 37, we had probably a decade and a half on the average kid there tonight.

psu, did mos play "running out" the last song on bring it back? that is by far my favorite mos song and it's fucking incredible.
glad to hear the glowing review. i've wanted to see those two forever and it sounds like they won't let me down. hearing "beautiful dreamer" and "think long" would be fucking EPIC!
and don't worry about the age gap, dude. you're never too old/young to get into today's cutting edge indie rock. shit is special.

They played a pretty long set. They didn't play Running out, though. They ended their encore with Re-arrange us, which was great.
I think the best song of the night, with the biggest crowd reaction, was The Goods.
Ms. Gardner is pretty freakin' hot, damn.

You're right about Headlights. Their live sound has a long way to go.
