A point well taken. Russert also wasn't universally well liked in the blogosphere, as this example from Bart Cop illustrates.

Personally, I thought Russert did a decent job of hiding his blue party ways. I mean, dude was no Rather when it came to his affiliations. We all knew he was a dem, but at least he was grounded on his feelings on election nights. Just sayin'

I'm having trouble picturing you reading his books, or listening to his radio shows, or otherwise paying the least bit of attention to anything he has ever said. Dude's sense of humor is obviously not for everyone, and may be an acquired taste. Equally as obvious is that your political beliefs are only about 180 degrees from his. Apples and bowling balls. I think we'd all agree that 58 is way too young for someone to die, particularly for someone with no known health problems. The Presidency, OTOH, is an extremely stressful job, its occupants literally age before our very eyes. And it's a fair question as to whether a 70-something in general, and McCain in particular, is up to the challenge. As for McCain, in light of his background and his most noteworthy psychological trait (a hair-trigger temper), it's certainly a fair question as to whether he suffers from PTSD.

In fairness to McCain, his age isn't quite as noteworthy when it comes to seeking the Presidency as the media has made it out to be. McCain is younger than Dole was when he ran for President, younger than Reagan was when he ran for re-election, and not significantly older than Reagan was when Reagan was nominated for President the first time (I won't say he's not much older than Reagan was the first time Reagan ran for President, since Reagan had become something of a professional Presidential candidate by the time he actually received the Republican nomination the first time.)

You'll notice that I mentioned that other candidates have run in the past who were older than McCain is now. There are some significant health concerns for McCain. The rather severe case of melanoma he had, for one. Also, he hasn't released any psychological records; given his background that might be relevant.

Presidents serve four year terms, not eight years, old man. The two most recent single term Presidents -- Carter and Poppy Bush -- also aged significantly during their terms.

I think Wolfman’s recent rants/meltdowns in here are ample evidence of why people are concerned about putting senile citizens in the White House. It’s not age discrimination, it’s self-preservation.

I completely disagree. His recent behavior is simply an indication that he's a slow learner, and his life "experience" is finally starting to bear fruit.
