Spain 13:2 Considering it's in South Africa, they might be the only European team with a chance in hell (pun slightly intended.) They are young enough to keep the mo going.
Italy 10:1 No way. Then again, if the fav's stuggle in Africa, they may just hang around and steal it in the end.
Germany 10:1 See Italy, above. But have Russia in qualifying so might need a playoff with another 2nd to get in. Could 2010 be the year they don't make it?
Oranje 11:1 They will have to be more consistent (especially in the back), beat the heat, and win with new keeper.
England 11:1 They get the Croats in qualifying again. Let's see how they deal with that first.
France 16:1 I'm not convinced they will qualify. They've got Romania and the Serbs. They will not be a factor regardless.
Portugal 18:1 Sweden, Denmark and Hungary could make qualifying dicey, but assuming they get through 18:1 is not a bad bet.
Russia 25:1 Have Germany in qualifying. Heat in SA might be a problem.
Ivory Coast 28:1 Drogba in SA? Definitely worth a C-Note at those odds.
Croatia 40:1 I just can't see it.
Cameroon 50:1 Fifty to One IN Africa? Lay your money down!
Nigeria 66:1 See Cameroon!
Mexico 66:1 Worth a 20 on it. Not much more.

USA 100:1 Hard to say. 100:1 could turn out to be good odds. Have been good in last 2 WC's not played in Europe.
South Africa 100:1 Solid odds. South Freaking Korea (With Hiddink yes) made semis playing at home.

I disagree. Altidore, Dempsey, Onyewu, Donavon, and Adu will be strong in '10.

Sure, '14 will be even better, but they've gotta shot in '10 to make the Round of 16 no matter who they draw in their group.

Johnson??? as in Eddie Johnson???? He may be fast......he sucks. Play Altidore and anyone up front. Johnson cannot finish. Fulham will rue the day they paid $4 Million for that bum. I'd take Ching any day. he may not be fast but he can finish and is always in good position.

Our round depends on the draw. if we are in the group of death again....forget it. If we luck out like 2002.....we make the round of 16.

That was sort what I was driving at to begin with. In 2014 short of 3 top 20s in the world in the same group we get through. I think we may even be be able to *gulp* make a run.

they will always be favs, based on the talent they have. shit, they have forwards and midfielders that don't and won't ever get to wear the yellow kits for their country, yet would be top 3 players for most countries in the world.


their weakness is always a team that has the ballz to take the game to them, not sit back and try to only counter on odd number breaks, you go after the brazilians, you can beat them.


argentina have tonso talent, this could be their world cup breakout.

Pitch speed is something that a lot of people think we are missing out there...

What about Demarcus Beasley? He did decently in the EPL as a sub. He was bought for a pretty hefty price by Rangers from a German Club who had him loaned out. Losing him is what probably cost them SPL this season even after winning both Scottish Cups and beating Celtic two out three times in league play (3-0, 1-0, and 2-3). Beasley was in the starting line up for much of the season when he went down. Celtic was done playing Cup footy in Mid March; Rangers were still in Both Scottish Cups and UEFA Cup. I sort of saw the writing on the wall. Celtic killed the SPL for the rest of the season playing only three to five matches a month the last 3 months of the term. Rangers on the other hand played 9 matches a month for the last three of the term. With Beasley they very likely would have advanced further in the UEFA Cup as well.

Beasley is getting some big time coaching and experience at Rangers that we shouldn't discount. They are the most successful domestic team in Europe. He's getting to play deep into major Cups such as the Champions League and UEFA cup as a starter.

You're assuming the Brazilians qualify... I don't know if you've seen the CONMEBOL standings recently but they are teetering on the verge on not seeing South Africa in 2010. They're a third of the way in to qualifying for 2010 down there and it's all one table. Brazil would be in the play in game against a CONCACAF team to get in as of today. They have taken draws recently to nations they typically get 3 from. They have still yet to play any of their 4 (2 each) matches against Argentina or Chile.

I don't think that under 23 and under 21 competitions that Chile has been showing so well in in recent years are a fluke. They look to be a nation that has come together with a lot of youth.
