ND-Miami?

Apparently, Miami wants to get on ND's schedule in one of the neutral-site games. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/57074" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have somewhat mixed emotions about this, in that I remember how the series ended very well. But I think renewing acquaintances may go some way toward getting back the swagger that our program needs. It's been 18 years, perhaps enough time has passed to put them back on the schedule. And back in the day, Miami was the team I loved to hate. So on the whole, I think I'd like to see this happen.

The Orange Bowl was a horrible venue in general, and for this series in particular. The fact that Miami moved might be helpful in that regard. The neutral site alleviates those concerns (the Meadowlands would be the obvious choice for a neutral site imho), but we also need a presence in Florida, so if we're going to do this series, I'd prefer a home-home-and-neutral deal.

JSC and Killian, thoughts?

forget the Meadowlands, i think Salt Lake City would make a lot of sense.

You could have played us then.

I suspect ND will play USF in the relatively near future. In fact, you're on our schedule at least once in the next 3-5 years IIRC.

To some extent, I'm referring to the scheduling discussions on ND Nation, which tend to want two things: (a) more diversity on the schedule; and (b) more marquee opponents.

The first point would rule out any more long-term deals with anybody. As to the second point, while USF is an up-and-coming program, they wouldn't quite make it into the marquee category yet. Miami, even though in a down cycle at present, would.

There's also been talk that Florida approached ND about a home-and-home, but White turned them down. If that's true, the new AD should reverse course. If you can get a home-and-home with Florida, a home-home-and-neutral with Miami, and a home-and-home with USF, that makes three trips to Florida in relatively short order, without a long-term commitment to anyone. From ND's point of view, that would be a good thing.

This "attitude" adds fuel to the ND Hayta fire. Seems pretty elitist to say "Insert team here" wants to get on ND's schedule. More like they want a has-been big name to stack their win column to make their schedule look better.

This might make sense if you were talking about tOSU, LSU, Florida, etc. But Miami's in a down cycle as well. In fact, while ND was worse than Miami last year, if you were to look at, say, the last three seasons, ND has been a better program than Miami overall during that period.

From the link I posted (admittedly not much info):
Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt said UM wants to book marquee opponents and would be interested in speaking with Notre Dame when it hires an athletic director about one of its new annual prime-time neutral site NBC games.
They're looking at ND as a "marquee program," apparently, and they're interested in one of the unique aspects of ND's schedule (the neutral game, where they'd admittedly be a much better attraction than Arizona State in Dallas, Baylor in New Orleans or Washington State in San Antonio). So it seems to me that the way I paraphrased it was pretty accurate.

Not to mention the exposure of beating a in name only powerhouse on national television.

Hell....are they even a powerhouse in name right now?
Thank GOD that our local sports talk picked up the Domer radio broadcast so I could listen to Pinkett instead of have to actually watch that debacle last year

If you don't at least give them that much credit you have to listen to their spiel about having leather helmet Heisman trophies and stories about four white guys named after horses and shit.

The late 80s matchups between ND and Miami were pretty epic. So many things have changed for both schools...you'd hope the series wouldn't be a disappointment now, like the PSU/ND series was this year and last.

Too bad JoPa can't coach anymore, huh? Cracks me up when people start saying great coaches can't coach....or the game's passed them by.
