Obviously its tragic. I still don't understand the whole story. He jumped off the bridge and couldn't make it to shore..got pulled out too late. The details haven't really been fully released. I just don't get how the guys that were there couldn't help him, or why he couldn't make it for that matter. Did he miss the deep spot and hit rock?
We jumped off that bridge in college. I've probably done it 5 or 6 times.

Water is running really cold this year, Jay. Maybe had something to do with it... dunno.
Sucks, regardless.
I thought I'd heard he bailed off an inner tube.
Horrid. I can't even stoop to making "safety" jokes.

from what i remember of what i read, he jumped in without a tube and the people who jumped in earlier were too far downstream to swim back and help. also, drowning doesn't take long once you gasp for air and get a mouthful of water instead. there's also something called layrngospasm in which the larynx closes once it detects water entering the lungs, which means you can't get air even if your head is above water.

Jesse Nash's tubing tragedy on the Willamette was the first thing I thought of after hearing about Doxey as well. The McKenzie and Willamette have to be the two most deceptively dangerous rivers anywhere. Both claim people every year who you would've though had the strength and the skill to negotiate them safely.

Dude should have listened to the black dudes and swimming stereotype. Rack the river who hit paydirt.

Try out some water below 55 degrees sometime (don't know what the McKenzie was running that day, but probably flirting with the magic 55 number).
The body reacts funny to those water temps, and you can't sustain movement of your limbs after 30-45 seconds in the cold water (despite what
you think you can do).
Which is the reason I abstained from rafting in the hot weather until the local rivers warmed above that... just too dangerous.

Bump, to RACK a little memorial --
Each game, a different player is going to take a turn wearing the #29 jersey. Above is Patrick Chung, taking a week off from his #15 (I believe Doxey looked up to Chung).
Wouldn't be suprised if the #29 Doxey jersey was the hot seller this year.

I'm almost certain the commemorative Doxey floaties will sellout before next weeks game.

Unfortunately, this is actually the sort of thing that Sheepfucker Nation would run with... when they weren't too busy spitting on opposing players and fans.
