Yet another PET, Aspen CO

Hola gang, heres the setup. We just got back from a very abreviated roadie to Aspen. My brother and sil own a condo in Aspen and they took our kids with them out there a week ago. The plan was that we were going to go out and stay 4-5 days with them and bring the kids back. Well, work got in the way for both of us and we could only get by with a couple of days off each. So we drove out there Sat, played Sun and Mon, drove back Tues. 15-16 hour drive each way, fucking brutal.

Anyways here goes,
This is about 7 hours into the trip somewhere in Utah north of St. Georges and I was bored and just started clicking pics as we were driving along, my Feet,
Image

Yes, we have a Toyota Sienna, nice for making roadies. I was reclining in the middle row seat, with my feet propped on the front seat in the down position.

Along the 70 in Utah, Salt Water Marsh or something like that looking SW,
Image

Same view point stop looking to the SE,
Image

A whole lot of nothing in Utah, but the landscape is pretty impressive. This is just a small snippet of the canyons and such.

Wifes turn to be bored,
Image

Sunday evening we went up a canyon just outside of Aspen to the Marroon Bells, There was a passing thunder strom when we got up there,
Image

Pyramid peak as the storm was passing with the sun starting to come back out,
Image

Looking back down valley,
Image

The Bells with the sun coming back out,
Image

Those peaks are all right around 14,000' +/- a few 100'.

Wildflowers and rainbow looking down valley,

The next day the wife and I took off on a bike ride up a place called Castle Creek Canyon. 11 miles one way and about 1700' elevation gain, not a terribly ass-kicking grade, but a non-stop uphill grind none the less, particularly for a pair of "lowlanders" huffing and puffing at altitude. It took about 1 1/2 hours to go up and maybe 25 minutes to rip down.
At the destination, and old mining town of Ashcroft,
Image

More Ashcroft,
Image

Looking up Castle Canyon and Castle Creek,
Image

After the bike trek we took a hike up a place called Hunters Creek behind my brothers pad,

Hunters creek, with the Aspen Highlands ski area in the background,

Later, hope this isn't too much of a bandwidth killer.

Forgot one, on the way back we stopped here in this town for gas.

Image

We were just about done with our pit stop and pump jocky hick comes out and starts to wash our window, I tried to stop him because I had just did it but he went on ahead, oh well, have at it. Then the good shit starts.

Pump Jockey Hick: Hey do you know that this back tire isn't looking very good.
Me: What ( I get out and go take a look at the rear passenger side tire)
PJH: You see here it looks like the belt is separted on the outside and it can come apart on you on a hot road or even if you hit a rock.
Me: (Incredulously) What?
PJH: Yea it doesnt look good, let me take it in and put it on the rack to get a better look at it.
Me: I don't know, it looks to me that the outside is just a little worn.
PJH: (starts the same spiel)
Me: No I think its just a little worn because the car had been out of alignment, and we recently had it aligned and the tires roatated from the front.
PJH: Thats possible, but i've seen this before, lets take it into the garage for a quick look.
Me: We had it at the dealer 3 weeks ago, don't you think they might have mentioned this.
PJH: Well, I wouldn't know.
Me: Well, i'll tell you what I know. You are full of shit, and there is no fucking way you are going to get this car in that garage up on a rack so you can fuck something up.
PJH: urr, uhh, umm.....

There's a whole shitload of "14,000 peaks" if you spot them a "few hundred feet."

There's 92 peaks in the USA over 14,000'. Of those 92, Utah boasts...

Exactly zero.

Cool pics regardless.

Mvscal, those wouldn't be for Mtool, don't you know, no place outside of NoCal can rival in majesty.

Dins, those are the Maroon Bells near Aspen Colorado. Pyramid peak that rises just above that lake is just below 14K I believe.

Wished we could have stayed a little longer, I had just gotten aclimated.

Ahhhhh. OK.

Of those 92 14K's a whole buncha'em are in Colorado. Then again, Colorado has about a 5000' head start on elevation, so it stands to reason.

Sheesh. If you took just a few minutes to read the thread before you rushed in to show off your immense knowledge of the mountains of Utah, you’d have known that the thread was about a trip to Aspen, Colorado. That the particular peaks he was referencing were outside of Aspen. There were a few pics at the start when they were passing through Utah.

Ponderous. Not to mention insufferable.

And yes, they were some very cool pics.

Fat chance.

While atomicdad posts cool PET's...

The guy is barely capable of typing in English... or any other language. Dreadful writer, so I tend to not punish myself by even trying.

But he always posts great pics.

But at least you can articulate a point well enough so I can at least understand you, and am able to pass judgement on you being a tool.

How the hell do you stand upright, much less walk, on those Hobbitt feet? Wait, I guess when you're all of 5' 9 and 1/2 inches it's not that much of a problem.
Yes, we have a Toyota Sienna.
Figures.

You prolly vote Democrat, too.

I know these areas well.

I've spent 3 months a year in the Rocky Mountains for the last 20 years while on business.

Because that's how I roll...

I'm glad you were able to make it up there for a few days.

Beautiful places.

It's still not Northern California.

Isn't it bad enough that I'm already suffering here in a wine-infused period of intense Brett Favre mourning?

You have to further torture me with pics of the Maroon Bells and Aspen Highlands, one of my favorite ski areas on the planet? And meanwhile, I'm stuck here in Minnesota, land of snickering Viking fans, spending my "vacation" up north at a lake place full of mice, bats, and crazy in-laws...

There's the respect that makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of Ted Thompson,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud idiot coach's contumely,
The pangs of despis'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy Pickle takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare-naked chick's hot bodkin?

-Fess, rambling.

Maybe I have a better command of English than you do; I had no problem at all following along with the descriptions of what we were seeing.

Whether you can own up to it or not, you do have this burning need to show everyone that you know something about everything. In your rush to satisfy this need, and also make atomicdad look like he didn’t know what he was talking about, you stepped on your shit-stained dick. You can certainly be funny, entertaining, and at times even informative. In this thread you were none of the above.

I’ll look forward to your next spin on this.

No, but I stopped in Green River Utah and picked up a 6-pack of Mirror Pond Pale Ale. This surprised me on several levels:
1) I was able to buy beer at some place other than a state run Liquor store in Utah.
2) A roadside Chevron Mini-Mart actually sold beer in Utah.
3) They actually had a selection of relatively decent beer other than Bud, Coors, or Miller.

When I lived in Utah during the mid-80s, you could buy beer & wine from places other than state-run stores, but liquor was a different story. Sounds like nothing's changed.

I'll defer to you, i'm not totaly up to speed with Utah's liquor laws. I know in the mid-90's in Park City we had to go to the state store for a beer run, but as I recall we were also shopping for some Jack Daniels.

About three years ago I ran into a little conveinence store near Bryce Canyon and asked for some Copenhagen and the gal behind the counter looked at me like I was the devil. I figured I was in some Mormon enclave.

separated by about a third of a mile. The mountain is on the border between Pitkin County and Gunnison County, Colorado, United States, about 12 miles southwest of Aspen. Both peaks are counted as fourteeners. Maroon Peak, at 14,156 feet, is the 27th highest peak in Colorado; North Maroon Peak, at 14,014 feet, is the 50th highest. The view of the Maroon Bells from the Maroon Creek valley to the northeast is one of the most famous scenes in Colorado, and is reputed to be the "most-photographed spot in Colorado" and one of Colorado's premier scenic overlooks.

Sweet Pissing Christ Almighty, here we go again.

Kevnic: Colorado has mountains over 14,000 feet, idiot.

We just had Kevnic's uterine lining sandblasted off of the walls, now he's gonna coat them again?
