Thoughts about going for two: Ok State-Wazzou

scenario: yesterday, Wazzou scores to make the score OSU 25 WSU 12 with 13:00 left in the game.

Wazzou kicks the PAT to make it 25-13. down 12, two score game, MUST have two TDs.

I don't see why you don't go for two.

you convert and it's a two score game, but it's only a TD (and 2) and a FG--11 points might get you OT.

you fail and you still need 2 TDs--down 13. the diff between 12 and 13 is not one i'd think would be "on the chart". that's 2 scores, 2 TD's.

i guess it's a lot of time left is the obvious response....but there's no real penalty in the immediate if you fail the conversion. if you make it, a stalled drive can still help you (FG) or certainly a much better end of game scenario needing only a FG than the TD.

as it turns out OSU had an answer on the next drive and scored the next 14 points. ballgame.

i would have gone for it.

I would have as well. It could have also served as a momentum builder in the stands and on the sidelines.

Makes no sense at all. I think this is a prime example of a football coach not understanding time and score. You see stuff like this all the time. I'm trying to think of 1 good reason not to go for 2 in that spot and I can't come up with 1. With 11 minutes to go in a game, I really don't see the difference between being down 12 or 13. But there is a difference between being down 11 instead of 12. Dave Wannstedt probably disagrees with all of us. He would have just taken a knee on the extra point because 2 scores is 2 scores!

i agree Jon. to me, it's the obvious play. i was thinking about this AM walking to the grocery store....seems like the automatic move. like SCS mentions, it also says to the team and fans if you want: "i'm the coach, i'm thinking about WINNING this game...and what it's gonna take. these are now the goals we have---stop OSU, a score and FG. we have a FINITE amount of time to do it."
