Badgers bouncing back 17-14, but tOSU down to Ohio at the half.
my CU grad school buddy who teaches at Ohio now is stoked. he's a Penn State guy, too; so he's got an xtra Big 10 mojo going as well.

Big Ten looking fairly unimpressive against the little guys so far. Iowa blowing out FIU and MSU is running all over Eastern...two teams ranked somewhere in the 110-119 range preseason though

.
Gotta rack the BTN though -- able to see all these games at once via channel flow.

Big-10 is god awful. I knew it would be bad, but geez.....
I still don't know how good Iowa is. Outscoring anyone 88-3 in 2 games is impressive but we've faced 2 horrible teams.
I think we finally have a QB though. Jake Christensen just flat out sucks. He was horrible last year and hasn't improved much. Has absolutely no pocket presence and can't hit a moving target. But Ricky Stanzi looks good so far. I know the defenses have been terrible but he's been accurate and showed poise and makes good decisions under pressure. He's clearly the best of the 2.
There are a few things I'm happy to see so far though. First off, we have yet to have a weakness exposed. That doesn't mean we don't have any, but none yet exposed and that is good. This team plays with some pride and you can tell they're more of a "team" than the last 2 years. Mentally, this ain't the 2006-2007 version of the Hawkeyes. No way does last years team drop beatdowns on these teams. They wouldn't have even shown up for games like this.
Season starts Saturday vs an Iowa State team that looks to be better than I had expected. I truly believe that if this team comes out and lays the wood to ISU on Saturday, they'll win 9-10 games (maybe even 11). If they lose, we'll know for certain nothing has changed with this team and it's going to be another mediocre season. They'll pretty much just lay down and quit the rest of the way if they lose this game. I'd almost guarantee it.

Jon, I would think Stanzi will start but do you think he keeps the rock vs ISU as long as he is doing a solid job?
I'm in a position to pick him up in fantasy-league. He is the only starter not already drafted in our limited talent-pool and I need somebody to plug-in at my underachieving #2qb-slot.
Considering that Christensen has a year under his belt and Stanzi is still at-least as good I'd say give the kid the rock a while. Christensen isn't getting Iowa back into the con's upper-echelon.

If you're desperate for a QB than go ahead and pick up Stanzi. If not, I'd stay away. That isn't a knock on him, but it has more to do with me not being certain he'll play the entire game. Ferentz clearly likes Jake and wants to give him every opportunity to start. He knows he can't start him this week because the fan base would turn on him so fast since it's quite obvious who the better QB is. But I just don't think Kirk can let Jake go. It's almost gay in a way!!
I bet Jake plays at least a couple of possessions on Saturday. He absolutely refused to play Stanzi at all last year and he's given Jake more reps so far this year.

From where I'm sitting, it was ever thus with Bucky - slow starts in their OOC schedule games.
I'll second the rack for the BTN. It's fun to jump between the conference games.

We just switched back to cable from DirecTV and the BTN was just picked up by the cable company here a couple weeks ago. Do any of you guys have the BTN on cable? How do you watch multiple games at the same time on cable? Here it's on channel 61 and I don't think there's any alternate BTN channels.

sounds like the time ferentz sat brad banks on the bench as well. too bad you only got a year out of that guy.
the big ten hasn't looked good at all, which is the only reason i expected michigan to be 8-4ish this year. then the season started and they ran out that offense. could you imagine jake christenson and nick sheridan playing catch?

So, the Badgers struggle, and the pollsters see fit to move them up a spot.
The humor that is early season polls.

They only struggled for a quarter. After that, they outscored Marshall 52-0. They would make paté out of your Ducks, BTW. The next game will tell a lot about the Badgers. Slow start at Fresno could be a killer.

I told you a couple of months ago... Wisconsin was going to lose to Fresneck State.
Just put it in the L column and get on with the easier games in the Big 10.

Yeah, that's what I thought.
But at least the Badgers have never been afraid to schedule the Ducks, which is better than a lot of D1 teams. Was a deece little mini-rivalry a few years back, and maybe it's time to do another H&H... both teams, coaches, and fanbases seemed to get along really well in that one.

I went to the game here (27-23 win) and we tailgated with some Quacker fans. Decent people, properly deferential as I recall. Badgers got paid back 31-28 the next year in Eugene. One of the last bright moments in Joey Harrington’s life, I imagine.

Football-wise... possibly.
Life-wise... doubtful.
Locally, he's still celebrated for being the great guy he is. Huuuuge community guy, and has an inability to say "no" when asked to do things to help others. He's that host-the-charity-event-or-pay-some-sick-kid's-hospital-bill guy... bigtime.
GREAT guy... wish that greatness would have translated to the NFL. But I doubt his overall happiness hinges on NFL success... which probably explains his lack of it.

Not necessarily true. He's probably an all-world pianist and receives much recognition for it.

I didn't go to the Wisky game, but the people I talked to who did had nothing but very nice things to say about Badger fans who made the trip -- which is why we'd love to see them come back... always welcome.
It's nice to have friendly rivals that have nothing to do with geography and tradition, but rather just enjoy playing each other. Oregon and Wisky had that H&H then a Bowl in rapid succession, and a "friendly rivalry" was born.

Funniest thing I ever saw is last year when the ABC cameras closed in on this fat ass Badger cheerleader right as they were going to commercial during the Iowa-Wisconsin game. That fat skank became a legend on the Iowa message boards. Everyone noticed it. Pretty much everyone I was watching the game with caught it and laughed our asses off. It's hard to explain......you just had to see it to understand! This chick had to weight at least 200. No way did she not!

Either that or getting selected 3rd overall in the draft and getting a nice little 6 mil signing bonus.

Any BCS school who is still foolish enough to go out to Pac 10 country and their officiating deserves to be hungused. I thought it might have just been the OU/Oregon sampling that was pathetic a few years ago. Apparently I was naive to the officiating "talent" out west until that point.
