LONE TREE, Colo. (AP) _ Former Colorado Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville is due in court next month on a drunken driving charge.

Police in the Denver suburb of Lone Tree say Quenneville was stopped around 8 p.m. Friday for driving without his headlights on. After further investigation, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and failure to use headlights.

Sgt. Dan Seaman says Quenneville's license was confiscated after he refused to take a chemical test.

The Avalanche hired Quenneville in 2004. The team announced in May that he was being replaced by assistant Tony Granato.

Quenneville is due in Douglas County court Oct. 3. A phone number for him could not be found.

The arrest was first reported by KUSA-TV in Denver.

When Q was with the Avs for their 1st Stanley Cup and St Louis hired him away, he was supposed to be the next Scotty Bowman. When he got canned in St Louis, it was supposedly because he was under-appreciated. He was still being sold as the next Scotty Bowman- until he turned into the pre-Hansons Reg Dunlop

I keep forgetting he was on Crawford's staff in Denver...yeah, he had some promise. I don't know about the next Bowman but he was at least a decent coach. He had better success after leaving the Avs then Crawford had after he left the Avs.
