RACK those who take the time to put the Pick 'em together

Although I've always appreciated the efforts of 88 and everyone take to make the Pick 'em happen, I've come to appreciate it more as I've experienced the complete and utter bullshit that is the weekly NFL Pick 'Em league at work, which is why I've spoken with my wallet and decided to not participate after the first two weeks. The league is basically word of mouth, the commish is too lazy (or ignorant) to email standings and results after the weekend. There is absolutely no transparency. The only way you find out how you did is to ask him, he either tells you if you have a shot at winning that week or are out of the running. If you don't ask, you don't know. And even if you are keeping score at home, you have no idea if he's keeping score correctly as you have nothing to double-check it on. He could totally be screwing everyone at work and be funneling the pot towards a handful of guys and be getting a kickback on the scam because no one has any idea who is winning, what their score is and how much they are winning by. And most of the fun of Pick 'Em leagues at work is finding out who is the last place finisher and giving him even more shit, and we can't even find that out. Plus, there is no cumulative score at the end of the season, it's totally week-to-week, and there is no reward for consistency. As full of shit as watching the Wolverines attempt to run the spread offense week in and week out. And, I mean, if you're scoring everyone's picks, how fucking hard is it to send out a mass email to the guys at work? Jesus fucking Christ.

So after Week 2, I decided to not participate anymore. The commish keeps asking if I'm turning my picks in, but I just keep telling him no. He's one of those douches where I would have to break it down for him why I'm not participating and he'd take it personally. And to top it off, they're talking about doubling the fee (and the pot) after Week 10.

Bull-fucking-shit.

I'm with you...except for the 'that often' bit at the end. It would be tempting to put a little money down on games to earn a little extra scratch but they call it gambling for a reason. This season has definitely shown that I should avoid making bets based on how I'm doing this year.

I too would like to thank PSU and the BuckeyeFans running...I guess all your type can be good for something.

Another rack goes out from me. The Pick'em is an enjoyable constant for 25-35 of us every year, due to their hard work.

Don't thank me for the pick'em...I'm just a thankful participant like the rest of yins.

Gambling on games is no different than spending an afternoon at the casino throwing away expendable jack at the slots and the card table. It should be for pure entertainment. For some reason, some folks disassociate the two and believe gambling is some type of degenerate activity while sliding bill after bill into a slot machine is perfectly acceptable. Certainly it can be a degenerate activity, but it's all about how you approach it. If you approach it expecting to "get over" and make money, then I think you should do your best to stay away. If you do it to blow a few measly bucks because you enjoy it, then have at.

Only gamble with extra money that you would throw away on bullshit if you didnt gamble with it. If you dont have the luxury of having money like that, then dont gamble.

Hey man you edged me out on the tiebreaker last week. You can Cadillac it into the finals from here on out.

It's a true gamble when you put money down on something you have no control over the outcome. It's different than playing cards with your friends or going to Vegas put the odds in your hands. I'm not bagging on anyone for betting on games if you don't lose your ass in the process.

Damn Gophers scoring late to spoil an early cover... :x

Bingo? Shocking that a smoothie like Adel would spend his evenings hanging out with the fat old women.
