i confess i've defended Cody on here in the past. all the talk coming out of spring ball and fall practice was about increased arm strength appear to have been smoke and bluster. this is a kind of thing that's a little troubling about Hawkins (the Coach) is the management of information is not always jibing with what seems to be happening inside the program. anyway, there was a lot of talk/grumbling around campus this week about giving the #2 QB some series.

and he throws an INT. thing i don't get, is where is this Boise State, high octane O Hawkins talks about. to me, as on observer, it looks like they make it up as they go along week by week.

I thought hiring Haekins out of Boise was a fabulous hire for the Buffs when it went down, but now I wondering how long does Colorado give him to show more improvement. They really don't look much better than his first year and this is year 3? Guess he realizing while this is Division I Football, the schedule is not quite as easy as playing WAC and Mountain West teams.

I'm willing to eat crow on this as well. I've defended Cody in the past too. I've never had any illusions of him becoming an elite, superstar-type QB, but I thought he was a bright enough kid to overcome his physical limitations and at least be a competent leader who isn't a liability. That clearly isn't the case. Not saying he isn't a smart kid, but he just doesn't have the physical tools to be a "Division 1 Football" QB. Too short, no arm strength, limited mobility, and now he's just flat out making bad reads. Coach Hawk needs to get Ballenger in there before this season really takes a nosedive...

didn't get to see or hear the Kansas game yesterday, but I really haven't been favorably impressed with Cody Hawkins's play this year. CU has a inexperienced O-line and that doesn't help. Both the play calling and the play making has been pretty underwhelming.

I don't understand the rush to give Hawkins a contract extension in mid season either. What, they were afraid he might jump ship to some other school? If that was on his mind in the middle of the season, then let him go.

people dont realize, these extensions for coaches like hawkins ans Prince, are to get his buyout lowered. sure he gets another 4 years on his contract, but now its only 1 mil to buy him out, compared to the 3-4 mil it was. prince deal, made it very easy for KST to buy him out. win, win for program

i must have missed it when they released the terms of the contract, imo

i wasn't thrilled with the Hawkins hire in the first place, but i was convinced to cut him some slack and wait & see.

well, i've waited and i don't see a whole lot of improvement in the program- unless you call a lesser ass-kicking from Texas than they took under Barnett an improvement. if he doesn't at least make a bowl game this year, it's time to start hoping some fool AD will hire him away

i'm too lazy to go look for it, but if you search the Denver Post for Tom Kensler's sports blog there is some info about Hawk's contract....that after 2009 if he leaves he buys out the contract for half what it was....I think. i read it yesterday.

additionally, it's a little surreal to read Hawk's gushing endorsement of his "great staff" just 3 days before the KU debacle. He's pretty much a voice in the wilderness around here on that topic since Saturday in Lawrence.
