I’ve never had them, but google turns up a ton of recipes. Someone referred to them as “meat candy”.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Smokies
I have made bacon wrapped smokies at MANY a party.
The trick is to get the cheap thin cut bacon. What I do is wrap the bacon around the smokey and pin it with a toothpick. Then, roll it in brown sugar. Usually, half a bacon strip is enough for one smokey. You don't want bacon wrapped around bacon as the bacon underneath doesn't get crispy. That's why half a strip works best.
Put the bacon wrapped smokey on a broiler pan so the drippings go into the pan beneath instead of having the sugar really burn in the bacon grease. Cook in the oven at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes. Turn the smokies over and cook another 10 minutes or so on the other side until the bacon is crisp.
Let stand for 10 minutes or so before devouring them. They taste awesome. One of my favorite appetizers to serve.
Oh...one last tip. Wrap the pan that catches the bacon grease in foil really good. Saves a TON of cleanup. That brown sugar that drops in the bottom will take forever to clean off.
