I'm just starting to listen to Jazz and I want to know what must-have albums that I need.

there is a shit ton of stuff on you tube. Go there and do a search on dave brubeck, john coltrane, miles davis, buddy rich, thelonius monk for starters.

Those fukkers were geniuses.

The Quintet - Live at Massey Hall 1953 is a classic. Deadly all star line-up.

Small sample (best track IMHO)

if you are into cool jazz drummers, besides buddy and joe morello, check out papa jo jones.

I thought maybe that john bonham was copying morello with the bare handed thing, but, I think they were both copying papa jo. there is a clip on you tube from about '53 with him and some other old black dudes. he is fukking awesome.

Yeah, I used to think Dave Clark was the best drummer on the planet - then someone gave me a two record set called 'the big beat' - featuring Jo Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey and Max Roach respectively. Never really heard jazz before that but you instantly know you're onto something completely different..
