Shonn Greene for Doak!!

I know ESPN continues to wank it to Knowshon but there's no debate........Shonn Green is THE best running back in America. Knowshon might be second but he ain't got Greene's game. 230 pound back with speed, power, and incredible footwork. He'll finish with over 1,700 yards and about 6.5 YPC. Javon Ringer has less yards on MANY more carries so he's clearly out of the running. Moreno is a great player, just not as good as Greene. Shady McCoy got off to a slow start so that keeps him out of the running.
1,700+ yards, 6+ YPC, 15+ TD's, 100+ yards in every game. If he doesn't win the Doak then college football is a flat out joke. Though even if he does one could argue it is.
The next mother fucker that says he's a "power back with no speed" I'm gonna fuck up. He's a power back WITH speed. Not Noel Devine speed, but above average speed for a RB. Dude busted a fucking 75 yard run last week for fucks sake.
Media = dumb. Shonn Greene = Doak. Knowshon = OVERRATED

I think it is just a two-horse race for best back in America between Greene and Ringer. Ringer has been the better workhorse while Greene is more economical. If you want to judge it on fewer carries, then Greene wins hands down. Another impressive stat for both guys...neither have fumbled the ball in the entire college careers.
Moreno gets hype from the four letter because of his highlight reel runs but good fans know that it's more about the down and dirty stuff a back does that makes him great. He's exciting but he's not a better back than Greene or Ringer.

I did not know that about the fumbles, Shoalzie. Good pull. Impressive stat.
You're right about Moreno having highlight reel runs, but no more than Greene. Dude's had some of the most impressive runs in the country this year. Ask the Purdue corner last week that he flattened about that. Or the Wisconsin secondary on his 34 yard TD run where he made the entire defense look just plain stupid. There are very few backs that have ever had his combo of power and speed.
Yes, he's not a great receiver but who gives a crap? He doesn't need to be. He's an incredible runner and a very good blocker. He picks up a blitz exceptionally well.

Greene is a great back who has had a wonderful season running behind a tremendous offensive line. I think one of the things I'll most remember about him this year was when Iowa went for it on a crucial 4th and 1 against MSU and Greene got stuffed in the backfield. Game over.

Seriously Jon, pulling a Babsian M2like mancrush homerific post?

I think Greene is a great back that probably does deserve the Doak.
Will he be back for his Sr. year? Isn't he like 25 already? I think he would be stupid to stay. I'm not sure his stock could be higher than it is now. Plus, he did have problems with grades at one time.
As a fan of college football, I liked watching him. As an ISU fan, I'd like him to go to the NFL.

This isn't a mancrush post. I think he's the best back in the country and I have stats and highlights that back me up on that.
About 1,750 yards, 6.2 YPC, 17 TD's and over 100 yards in all 12 games....
Yeah, what a homer I am.....

Greene clinched it yesterday...12 for 12 on 100 yards or more in a game and Ringer was shut down again in a big game and his lowest rushing total all season. Also the third straight game for Ringer to be held under 4 yards a carry. He's only had 3 Big Ten games over 4 yards a carry while Greene hasn't had a single game under 4.2 yards a carry. It's hard to deny what he's done...I can't see the award going to another back.

Yeah, cuz that was Greene's fault and all.....
Had absolutely nothing to do with the FB that blocked the wrong guy, right??
Dude, Javon Ringer isn't even close to as good of a back as Greene is. Greene had the Big-10 rushing title clinched BEFORE the game last night because Ringer did what he always does against a good run D......nothing. Iowa and Penn State both shut him down. More yards and 2 yards a carry more. I am sick and fucking tired of hearing about Javon Ringer from the media. He'd get 4 carries a game at Iowa.
Man I wish we could have another crack at Sparty. We'd beat you by 20 and that's not me being a homer, that's a fact. Heck, we could play the game again in East Lansing and we'd still win by at least 2 touchdowns. How we fucked that game up is beyond me. We were clearly the better team. Next year we ain't handing you the game.....

Mace wrote:Yep, a tremendously young offensive line (only one senior, the center, started against Minnesota last night).
What are you trying to say? That their o-line sucks? I haven't heard that angle yet. It's one of the better ones in the Big Ten and head and shoulders above MSU's. Greene is a beast, but the holes they pave for him make it much easier on the guy.
Yep, a missed blocking assignment by one of those young "tremendous" offensive linemen
Why are you trying to downplay my favorite memory of Shonne Greene? I don't care HOW he landed on his ass, to be perfectly frank. He could've tripped up on Ferentz's offer letter from the New England Patriots for all I care; bottom line is he got buried into the ground on
the play of the game. It was a lasting image for me.
Seriously Mace, there's no reason to get temperamental here. I thought it was pretty obvious what I was doing - catering to T1B's favorite whipping boy. But if you care to continue, by all means...

you know, tnoj, i'm looking through this post and i don't see anything about ringer > greene. that probably means you're a frontrunner who'd go missing once msu won the hypothetical rematch you brought up.

Uh,
what?
It's a fact that Iowa would win by 20 in a game that won't be played? Go ahead and explain that one with "facts," you pathetic dumbfuck. How convenient, and how appropriately JONsensical of you. Jesus, what's with this shit? You lost. Move on, man. This is sad. Nobody gives a fuck what Iowa would do in this fantasy world of yours where non-existent games are the basis of "facts." In the REAL WORLD, mother fucker, your team lost and looked like shit in the process. Get over it.
Heck, we could play the game again in East Lansing and we'd still win by at least 2 touchdowns.
~Yawn~
Ok, whatever. If this winning attitude makes you feel better, have at, champ. In case you haven't checked the future schedule, you'll have that chance again next year in E. Lansing.
How we fucked that game up is beyond me.
I thought it was a missed blocking assignment?

Now come on Sam, I never said that. I just said it's a program that's been no better than Iowa over a decent period of time- especially when you factor in all of the alleged recruiting scandals. That's all. Right now you got the ball rolling and Iowa is on the rise. Maybe we'll meet up in the BCS next year. We've got 8 starters on defense and 7 on offense coming back next year (plus punter/kicker), so it's setting up to be a big year.
Seriously, congrats on a great year. I am surprised and can admit being wrong that Bama would not get back to this point this quick. I am not always right, yet more often than I'm given credit for. One thing I will never be wrong about is Notre Dame being a mediocre program kept alive by the media. Now that's a fact.
Oh, and props to Shonn Greene on winning Big-10 offensive player of the year. Too bad our coach isn't an asshole or he would have had 25 TD's and 2,100 yards easily. But our coach has class and doesn't run up the score and keep starters in to pad stats in blowout wins. And rack Kirk for that.

Greene isn't even in the "Jet's" league...
... if Best didn't miss half the season due to injury... this conversation wouldn't even come up.
Don't add up his receiving and return yards... 'cause it would get really ugly.

u of if - berkeley
