HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
This is so funny....because it's so sad!
But in the same season that there's been so much talk of firing Charlie Weis, and how awful Notre Dame is, it looks like the Fighting Irish will get to play on New Year's Day.

That was assuming they beat either SU or USC. They won't be going to the Gator Bowl

Look you twit... of course, I know when the "article" was written.... you socal.
I read it last week.
The Gator Bowl folks won't say it outloud, but its almost a lock that Notre Dame is headed to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville to face off against not-even-Nostradamus-can-predict-who from the ACC. (Actually, that ACC opponent isn't much of a secret either, but I digress.)
The reason I can be so certain, even though I have no affiliation (real or imaginary) with the Gator Bowl and/or Notre Dame? It's two-fold.
#1 - The Gator Bowl had it's 39th best (read: 24th worst) attendance last year for the Virginia - Texas Tech game. The announced crowd was more than 17,000 short of capacity... and that was the ANNOUNCED attendance. The bowl, with just two games remaining on existing contracts, needs to guarantee some attendance & viewership and -- in college football -- that means Notre Dame.
It's all about MONEY... with the "Gator Bowl".
Can you socals even muster enough energy to read ???
I know it's asking a lot of you "Domer's" in socal.
the truth

It's more about rules first. If USC beats ND, then the Gator Bowl cannot select ND over any 7+ win team from either the Big East or the Big 12.
The truth.

gator is taking one of these teams:
MU,NU pending on where Tech goes.
tejas,ou bcs
tech cotton
Okie/MU in holiday
Okie/MU in Gator
NU in sun
etc
there is no way the gator takes a Big least team over Okie st or MU, even Nebraska gets the bid over a bigeast team

If Cincinnati wins the Big East and WVU wins out, then the Mountaineers could be going over a Big 12 team. That's the only way I could see a Big East team getting in that Bowl.

I have heard the gator is going FSU-Nebraska depending on what happens in the ACC.
They were looking at ND until they lost to Cuse.

Not that I want to see it happen, but I've heard rumors that they're getting rid of both the one win rule and the 6/7 win rule. Anybody know if that's true?

If attendance is the issue, the teams that I could see alleviating the Gator Bowl's concerns on that issue, in no particular order, are:
Nebraska
ND
Oklahoma
Texas
West Virginia
South Florida (I included them on this list due only to the relatively close proximity between the USF campus and the Gator Bowl)
Of those teams, Oklahoma and Texas obviously won't be available to the Gator Bowl. If the one win rule and the 6/7 win rule remain in effect, that would eliminate ND (unless they somehow beat USC), and South Florida (the one win rule, if not the 6/7 win rule). Nebraska might also be eliminated under the one win rule, although it's sort of a longshot. Basically that would require: (1) Nebraska losing to Colorado; (2) Oklahoma State beating Oklahoma; and (3) either: (a) Missouri beating Kansas; (b) Missouri winning the Big XII CCG; or (c) Missouri being picked ahead of Oklahoma State for the Holiday Bowl. A bit of a longshot, but certainly possible. So maybe the Gator Bowl should take West Virginia if they win out.
Btw, adel, the Gator and the Sun Bowl both can't take a Big XII team.

ou and tejas will get bcs bids(pending big12 title game, and if one of them loses, it just bumps MU to bcs bowl)
there is a ton of rumors about Nebraska Bumping Mizzou down a bowl. Which would be another sham, that is college bowls.
U beat the fuck down an opponent, finish ahead of them, yet they get picked first.

i don't see that happening. if the Gator was so hot to take Nebraska, they would have done it two years ago.
i think you are getting a little paranoid adel.

what Mizzou needs to worry about is not getting shafted out of the Cotton Bowl or Alamo Bowl since the perceived notion is that those bowls prefer Texas/South teams for attendance purposes.

Hey m200l you fuck head. I read and can actually comprehend what the article said. It was written before the shitty Irish lost to Syracuse, now that they've lost to Syracuse and will lost handily to $C no bowl in their right mind will take them. So please do everyone a favor and just shut the fuck up with your EVERY conference sucks and the Pac 10 would beat everyone if you played our schedule. Just fucking go away.

The Gator bowl is in deep doo doo.
and a possible FSU-Nubs matchup would fill the stadium and put them on the square. last years game, crushed them financially. And they are a true non profit bowl game. Everything paid for by game and concessions, etc.
While i would of watched a virginia-Tech game, the fans didnt, and they had 42ishK in fans. So they cannot afford another bad matchup. Imagine Mizzou vs Miami. Miami doesn't travel, and Mizzou has traveled decent recently, but they couldnt carry the attendance like NU could.
Rumors are, if Gator doesn't break even on the game, they will fold up. Which makes sense at how hard they were going after a 5 loss Notre Dame team. any team with 5 losses doesnt deserve to play on new years day. but $ talks.

The only rules that make sense is adding 1 loss to the BCS formula, regardless of outcome, to any 1A team that plays a 1AA team and 1 loss to the BCS formula to any team that plays more than 6 home/neutral site games in a single season (2 losses if they play 8 home/neuutral site games in the season)

We had this discussion back then. I think there were several factors at play:
1. In 2006, there were still questions about the long-term viability of the Big East. I think a tie went to the Big East that year, if only because the Gator would have been locked into taking the Big East twice in the next three years if they had taken a Big XII team.
2. West Virginia actually was ranked ahead of Nebraska in the final BCS rankings that season.
3. West Virginia also travels very well to bowl games.

Then $C should have 3 losses because they played WSU and UW. Oh wait, after this Saturday it will be a 4th loss due to having ND on the schedule.

Don't forget a 5th loss for scheduling a "road" game against UCLA.
