I really could give a care butI'd bet you Vandy is ahead of Cal in the US News rankings. it might not be by much since i think they are both in the top 15-25 range....but, still, deal with it if that's your category and not some website that looks like it was designed when you were listening to the Spin Doctors.

Yeah ok, the school is always in the top 10. And highly underrated. East Coast kids know all about it, and get themselves an excellent Education. When they are quoting Medical journals about medical breaktroughs, it's either from John Hopkins , Harvard,or Washington U.

I hate to break up the "dipshit" parade here... but, the point was made and it was obviously missed by the simpletons.
What has it been... about 10 years now since the story came out on how U.S. News and World Report came up with their rankings ?????
Surely, you're bright enough(reaching)..... to remember the story and the fraud they were exposed as ?
Take a good look at the rankings... and we'll see if one of you is bright enough to pick up on the common denominator in all their rankings.
Good luck simpletons, I be back with the answer if you can't figure it out.

You cited Cal as a #2 yet when the facts are displayed you conveniently turn the page to say "THE RANKINGS ARE BULLSHIT!"
Get back to me when even YOU understand what type of point you're trying to make.

Magoo, I knew ahead of time that you're not too bright... and I almost made a footnote(just for you) in my statement due to your inability to even see "the play" which I made in my original post.
Things seems to fly over your head rather easily, and still with this post.... are unable to point out why the U.S. News and World Report was shown as being nothing other than a fraud.
So, with that being said.... do you think you can figure out what I was stating(an answer) in my second post ???
I don't have high hopes for you... since I've seen many of your "hillbilly" like posts for years now.

2oolio -- Consider this: People with even mediocre communication skills are able to make their points easy for the reader to understand. Ever notice how you constantly have to explain your point? Rarely do I believe that even YOU understand what it is you're trying to clack out. And no, I'm not buying it's because your genius has washed over the minds of us mere mortals. Couple this with the fact you have quite clearly below a 12th grade understanding of the english language, despite your attempts to seem literarily intelligent. The ultra progressive, sophisticated west coast educators have done you wrong, friendo. The average midwestern "hillbilly" looks like Stephen fucking Hawking compared to any of your feeble, yet pretentious internet offerings.
And yeah, fuck it, U.S. News and World Report is a fraud. And yet you cited Cal as a #2. That doesn't lend much credence to the school you were attempting to prop, now does it?

I guess you never learned in school that you can go from point A to C without going through point B.
Do you give up ???
Or, is the question that I presented just a little to tough for you to answer ?
You really can't see the common denominator in the rankings ?
I'll make this very easy for you since you can't seem to play along. Take a look at the top 20 in the rankings and come back and tell me what they ALL have in common.
Good luck.
I'm here to give you the answer.

Your stupidity is lost on yourself. The greater point you're attempting to make here is that the rankings are fraudulent. That's the bottom line, right? Yet you cite the same ranking that has Cal as #2. Why would you bitch-slap the university you attended for a quarter of a semester that way?

Why yes, Mr. Magoo.... I did.
MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote: Why would you bitch-slap the university you attended for a quarter of a semester that way?
Once again, YOU don't have your FACTS straight... but, I'm not really surprised.
I see I'm going to have to lower myself to your level to get any of this across to my favorite "hillbilly".
"I posted a non-bias opinion on University rankings... from a non-bias opinion in another thread.
Then certain posters used a very well known source of bias(usnewsandworldreport) for their rankings and I started a thread which made fun of their remarks by using 'said' source.
I used their source put into question what basis a college is for.... and why it is ranked.
I used what most ranking sources use for ranking "academic" universities from their own source, while they used the bias of 'said' source for their rankings.
.... and Mr. Magoo, this is the LAST time I'm going to ask you this question and just give up if you can't answer it.
"What do all of the TOP 20 schools have in common"?
This is for us news and world report.
Hopefully you understand the question and reply with some sort of answer... other than another question from you.

Ok, this was a bit more challenging for the "College football forum" and Mr. Magoo than I thought.
.m2 wrote:

Too make it as simplistic as excusably possible.... all the schools are PRIVATE schools that participate in the "survey" issued by U.S. News and World Report.
... and for good reason.
'On 22 June 2007, U.S. News and World Report editor Robert Morse issued a response in which he argued, "in terms of the peer assessment survey, we at U.S. News firmly believe the survey has significant value because it allows us to measure the "intangibles" of a college that we can't measure through statistical data. Plus, the reputation of a school can help get that all-important first job and plays a key part in which grad school someone will be able to get into. The peer survey is by nature subjective, but the technique of asking industry leaders to rate their competitors is a commonly accepted practice. The results from the peer survey also can act to level the playing field between private and public colleges."
"I'ma gonna' make another drink and add more relevance to my synopsis..... so that I'm completely clear to even the most "grammatically" challenged".

OMG, "the truth" is "back" with more fun and games.
In 1995, Reed College refused to participate in U.S. News and World Report annual survey. According to Reed's Office of Admissions, "Reed College has actively questioned the methodology and usefulness of college rankings ever since the magazine's best-colleges list first appeared in 1983, despite the fact that the issue ranked Reed among the top ten national liberal arts colleges. Reed's concern intensified with disclosures in 1994 by the Wall Street Journal about institutions flagrantly manipulating data in order to move up in the rankings in U.S. News and other popular college guides. This led Reed's then-president Steven Koblik to inform the editors of U.S. News that he didn't find their project credible, and that the college would not be returning any of their surveys."
Rolling Stone, in its 16 October 1997 issue, argued that Reed's rankings were artificially decreased by U.S. News after they stopped sending data to U.S. News and World Report. Reed has also made the same claim. In discussing Reed's decision, President Colin Diver wrote in an article for the November 2005 issue of the Atlantic Monthly, "by far the most important consequence of sitting out the rankings game, however, is the freedom to pursue our own educational philosophy, not that of some newsmagazine."

On 19 June 2007, during the annual meeting of the Annapolis Group, members discussed the letter to college presidents asking them not to participate in the "reputation survey" section of the U.S. News and World Report survey (this section comprises 25% of the ranking). As a result, "a majority of the approximately 80 presidents at the meeting said that they did not intend to participate in the U.S. News reputational rankings in the future." However, the decision to fill out the reputational survey or not will be left up to each individual college as: "the Annapolis Group is not a legislative body and any decision about participating in the US News rankings rests with the individual institutions." The statement also said that its members "have agreed to participate in the development of an alternative common format that presents information about their colleges for students and their families to use in the college search process." This database will be web based and developed in conjunction with higher education organizations including the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council of Independent Colleges.

actually, this succession of threads reminds of vintage m2 argumentation.
make a ridiculous claim or ad hominem attack. be refuted either by the presentation of objective "facts" or (often) the mode of argumentation m2 initially uncorked. then, claim he was 1. just kidding 2. arguing black is white: the implausibly presented total reversal of his initial position which everyone else is too stupid to understand 3. or in the old days, he'd throw out the "dripping sarcasm" emoticon and pretend to be operating on a different level of "meaning" than his interlocutors.
finally, when exasperation ensues, m2 plays the middle america/fly-over card (again, a derivation of the ad hominem attack insofar as name-calling is elementary school playground sophistication).
near as i can tell, along with accusing of "deflection" as a "deflection" itself (enough to make Don Rumsfeld proud)...all these elements are here.
huzzah.

That's a very astute analysis, Mr. Crimson, and one that concurs with my own. My diagnosis for m2 is a sad one indeed. You see, m2 is a very low functioning individual who has been in and out of sheltered workshops for the past decade. In fact, it was in a sheltered workshop that he learned to make wind chimes and, subsequently, become somewhat self supporting. Having never graduated from a college or university, m2 has developed an obsession for the California Golden Bears which, in many cases of mental retardation, it is not unusual for the afflicted person to attach themselves to something that reminds them of their childhood. In the case of m2, it would seem that he once possessed (and probably still does) a bear that was his security blanket, and he will continue to obsessively cling to that bear because there is no one else in his life to give him the attention and affection that every human desires.
The prognosis? Well, it's a sad one as well. m2 is destined to remain an obsessive little retard with delusions of grandeur regarding not only his bears, but also of sexual exploits with women. You see, m2 is a virgin who does have contact with semi-attractive women at the numerous flea markets he attends, but, when they give him attention and show pity for his obvious mental deficiencies, m2 falls in love and runs to his trailer to masturbate to wild fantasies of the love he has never experienced. Unfortunately, m2 will continue to post of his delusions and fantasies on this board but the rest of you will now have a little better understanding of this frail and mentally challenged little creature.
I am...
