Depends on the car in question - but yea that's cheap even in CAD
I had a Mazda 626 like 15 years ago that lost the automatic tranny, and it was like 1,500 back then.
Big difference is the rebuild was shit and it ended up back in the shop less than 2 weeks later.
I've never rebuilt one, even back in the day when i worked on my Olds Cutlass or my Trans Am (insert mullet joke here)
Most of my friends would just go buy one from salvage and replace instead of fucking with rebuilds.
