The Obama-Biden comprehensive New Energy for America plan will:

* Provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump
* Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.
* Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined.
* Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars -- cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon -- on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America.
* Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.
* Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.

A president-elect set out a few public policy goals? Heaven forbid.

Isn't energy policy to be hashed out behind closed doors with corporate executives?

I think a chunk of the falling sky knocked you silly, Jerknick...

got a few questions for barry.
* Provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump
so he's gonna lower the gas tax? encouraging further polar bear massacres? cool.
* Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.
why stop there. make it half a trillion and , ohhhh, let's say 25 million new yobs.
* Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined.
can't we just invade them and take their earl?
* Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars -- cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon -- on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America.
I always like mpg figures from plug in hybrids. Why if you plug that fukker in all the time and never venture more than 20 miles from home, you can get like 3.1 jigga miles to the gallon. Don't worry about the energy you sucked out of the wall. Your windmill on the roof made it.
* Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.
why not shoot for 100% renewable? aim high.
* Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.
so algore can stay "carbon neutral in his 20K sq ft pad. :meds: :meds: :meds: :meds: :meds: :meds:

No, no, no... energy policy should be hashed out behind closed doors by environmental group executives

The efficiency of an internal combustion engine is around 20%. The efficiency of the marginal electric grid generation (assumed to be combined cycle gas turbine) is almost three times as high, and a lot less polluting. Technologies like regenerative braking give the hybrid an even larger advantage. So you see, the efficiency of a plug-in car, even if you go back to the fuel used to generate the electricity, is a lot higher than a conventional vehicle.

Carry on...

Is this the game plan?

After doing the board a service by generally being invisible for the last 12 months, Jerksmanydicks starts prancing around the board like Atomic Panties in front of a jizz-stained mirror? After the ensuing reindeer beatdown, Spamnic claims BODE for being "inside their domes" and causing them to "melt"?

Uhm. Wow.

Yes, ICEs have shit efficiency. Power plants have more. But, you got to get that efficient power stored on heavy batteries and lug them around. This eats away at alot of that extra efficiency. That being said, I still think EVs are the way of the future for short distance travel such as commutes. Hybrids like the prius make sense in some cases, but are expensive and complex. I think the chevy volt is a better idea. Hopefully GM has enough pennies left to bring it to market.

I hear that there's a car that runs on compressed air that has a decent range for short distance driving. Seriously. Haven't seen it though.

I'm still waiting for somebody to invent a really big rubber band that can store enough energy for 40 miles or so without breaking for at least 1000 trips.

I saw that air powered one. Pretty simple and safe. Not a hell of a lot of range or power though. Don't know how efficient an energy storage medium it is.

What we really need to look at is human power. There is a hell of a lot of fuel used carrying fat fukkers 3 miles here and 7 miles there. These distances are very easily covered on a decent bicycle. Even I can pedal my fat old arse 12+ miles each way to work and back. Alhough the cold shitty weather has put a serious damper in that lately.

Mikey, I know your commute is a bit long for a conventional bike, but, you really ought to look into ebikes. There are plenty of folks out there doing 20+ mile commutes on them.

Is this anything like telecommuting, except on a bicycle, of course?
