Love how these aging boxers try to stave off retirement by either fighting slugs or boxers in lower weight classes....
Hope the runt knocks his ass out.

De La Hoya is the only boxer who sells PPV's and his career is finished. Boxing is in serious trouble and if it hadn't already lost its place as the premier fight sport to MMA... it will now.

Bwwahaaa....Nobody gives a shit about MMA ?
Lets take a wild guess here and suggest that maybe boxing and MMA PPV and their gate revenues, probably just make hockey look like the suck ass sport is has become ?

Any body recall the elf's show where Terrance got the "pinchee pollo" blast off at De La Hoya ?

MMA is as much of a sporting endeavor as competitive hot dog eating and swatting shopping carts and grass clippings away from your $54k SUV.

I had no idea anybody besides frat boys with Gamecock hats and tribal band tattoos watched MMA.

That's just a very stupid comment. You'd consider wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, judo, karate/taekwondo as sports, right? Putting them all together makes it not a sport??? Nice logic, tard.
I like hockey as much as the next guy, in fact, I'm wearing a Carolina Hurricanes sweatshirt right now... but MMA does 10x the ratings as the NHL (regular season) when it's on cable or network TV. The Elite XC fight on CBS on May 31 pulled an identical share as Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs (and had a much higher share in the much sought after 18-49 demographic). Spike TV's ratings for the "numbered" UFC fights that are shown free destroy everything else on cable. MMA also draws higher ratings than regular season NBA, college hoops, MLB and every other sport not named football. What's that about irrelevancy?
You can like MMA or not. To brush it off as irrelevant is just foolish.

MMA is not irrellavant, but, to compare ratings between a single event with a sport that has 10-15 games every fukking day is kinda fukking stupid.
As for boxing, back in the day it had a huge following. But that was when we could watch Ali-Frazier live on TV free. Now you pay 50 bucks to watch a washed up pretty boy get his ass handed to him by a midget. Geeez, I can't possibly figure out why boxing is dying as a TV sport.
If boxing doesn't get their shit together and start marketing their product through network TV, it will fade away. There are chumps fans who will drop fity bucks now. But, they are life long fans who became so watching free televised events. And I am sure plenty of them are growing tired of handing over their cash for joke fights.

MMA is as relevant to me as WWE wrassling or boxing. That is, I'll watch it if it is in front on me on free tv, but you won't catch me dead paying for a 50+ dollar a card ppv.

You watch it on cable TV right?
You're paying to watch it.

Sorry you can't keep track of where your money's going, Corky. And yes, if you watch it on cable you are paying for it. Though it's a bit more reasonable than PPV.
BTW, when you pay your Federal taxes, do you tell yourself how happy you are that none of your money is going to the Iraq war, it’s all going to fund education?

I watched a bit of that MMA or Ultimate Fighting or whatever they call it. Nothing beats seeing a couple guys rolling around the floor trying to beat the crap out of each other, If I want to see that, I'll head down to some "rough bar" on a Saturday night and see it for free.

Yeah, I can see the similarities between a couple of drunken yahoos in a bar fight as opposed to two highly skilled athletes who have been training for 10 years.
I suppose you'd rather watch some beer league softball game than a MLB game, right? Pretty much the same comparison.

That's a personal opinion and that's just fine. You can still see how it's relevant to those advertisers that covet the 18-49 male demographic though. The dumbass that doesn't like Michigan doesn't seem to get it.

No, I DO get it. I just don't give a flying fuck what marketers or advertisers seem to think is important.

I've been watching MMA since the inception of UFC and it did "evolve" from a no-rules free for all to one of the best spectator sports to watch. Not that watching back in the day wasn't highly entertaining, but it's really turned into a mental, physical and endurance competition that is just incredible once you actually learn a little about it.
Those that don't like it? OK - maybe you're just anti-violence
But if you're a hockey fan, that means you're probably in favor of banning fighting - Right SM?

Would these be the same advertisers who flood football games with beer, penis enlargement and prostate treatment ads?

Throw in some Xbox 360 or PS3 ads and that pretty much sums it up.
