At this point, I am fine with Clark having been anointed the starter. I think he's pretty good - he must develop more, but "good" for a PSU QB is saying a lot. There is no way for me to know if Devlin would have been better.

Ultimately, someone has to be the starter, without looking over his shoulder too much. Somebody is going to have to be the backup. I do not think that there was a level-field competition for the starting position, and I wish that there had been.

I don't have much faith in QB recruiting and development at PSU - and I don't think that will change until some future regime is in place.

As for Joe leaving...there is a good deal that is excellent about him hanging on, and a good deal that is not so good. It's hard to be too critical now that the team has undeniably returned to legit top 15 status as seasons begin and end. However, viewing Joe in action these days, bet it at PCs, or in interviews, whatever...it's very hard not to conclude that he should retire. He was an amazing coach, but he is not up to the task of controlling the program's every detail, as he once was.

Three year extension, but they've been phasing Joe out for the last few years it appears. This is the right way to handle a legendary coach who isn't ready to go yet. Put good people around him, delegate accordingly, and let Joe be the iconic figure for the program.

as for leaving, i meant he had a special team this year, maybe even next year. afterward, hmm. i'd be cool to see him go out on top like this rather than after and 8-4 season. these types of seasons have become one-offs for psu, not the norm.

Devlin leaving is not a big deal anymore for PSU as they have signed Newsome away from the Hokies.

How could the kid not want to come to a program that has had an offense ranked in the triple digits for 3 years running? Boggles the mind.

We really needed Newsome - big pickup.
