The points system they use is kind of dumb, the avg ranking per player is a better way to determine who had the best class. So teams will just sign 30 players and then tell some of them after LOI day that they cant come to school there.

Gabe Lynn made Oklahomas overall jump pretty well, great pick up for a team in that conference.

USC has been hurt by Sarkisian leaving, Morrell Presley switched from USC to UCLA, Alshon Jeffrey is waivering and even Randall Carroll is looking at other schools now, all 3 are recievers who were recruited by Sarkisian, it may lead USC to go after Shaq Evans again but I dont know is Morton can bring him in. Kennard and Teo's commitments will help bring USCs score up but Carroll needs to hurry up and name a good Offensive Coordinator to keep other teams from raiding his cupboard.

I don't claim to be an expert on recruiting by any stretch of the imagination, and there are plenty of posters here who know much more about recruiting than I do.

Having said that, I have always had one HUGE problem with recruiting rankings. Simply put, any recruit being seriously considered by a BCS school, even one of the bottom-feeder schools, is going to look like a man among boys at the high school level. Given that high-profile recruits so rarely step on the same playing field in high school with one another, let alone go head-to-head directly with one another, how reliable are the rankings, in reality?

If it's a choice between having high recruiting rankings and not having them, as a ND fan, I'd rather see my team have high recruiting rankings, of course. But I'll always take them with at least a grain of salt, if not more than one.

Full disclosure: I was a student at ND during the Faust years. For those who don't know, during that time ND was continuously pulling in Top 10 recruiting classes while still managing to blow cack (by ND standards, anyway) on the field. That experience probably has played at least something of a factor in my cynicism toward recruiting rankings.

the dude on mgoblog did a pretty good breakdown of michigan's recruiting vs. results on the field to try and explain why this year's team sucked so bad. carr was still pulling in top ten recruiting classes at the end of his tenure, so one would think that talent would've lent itself to at least seven wins this year. but a systematic review of who those players were and how they panned out explained well why we were such shite. i mean, doug dutch was a top 100 recruit. huh?

You mean he may end up at his dream school ???

You can say it... Cal
At the time of his commitment, there was some surprise he jumped on the offer from SC so early because Cal was always the school considered his dream school.

I like these quote's even more:

Here's what we know about Carroll. Despite his commitment to USC, many close to him including a few of his coaches still feel Cal will ultimately be where he ends up.
and dealing with the weasel...
There were reports that UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisal had come in for a home visit with Carroll earlier in the week but according to one of his coaches, "Randall blew it off and didn't show up for it."

Kennard is in Austin right now and he is having a hell of a good time.
Teo lives in a Blue and white mormon house.

Considering you call yourself "The truth", you should know when someone is calling you out. Or do you need a direct line to the obvious?

Don't really think they're out there signing kids then telling them they can't come, that would burn bridges like a mofo with the high school coaches. Think it's more like they oversign without regard to academic status then after the great recruiting-ranking comes-out several of the kids fall by the wayside because they didn't qualify, thus giving them a more normal-size class in the end. Regularly showing disappointments the door also helps these same coaches keep under 85.

If Sarkisian is costing USC recruits it just reaffirms how dumb some of these kids are. Sark is nothing special as an OC, he isn't Chow by any stretch. Plenty of guys could get just as much out of USC's sick talent. But if USC has to go with any "back-up" offers I'd imagine those guys are still players most would beg for.

And before we get the UT allegations of inducements (which are being taken as gospel on the 'horn boards), the NY Times quoted McFarland's mom today talking about how UT boosters were offering interest-free loans and the like if McFarland went to the 40 acres.
I made a deposit with Darrell Scott's mom this morning at the CU credit union. :meds:

Congrats on getting Lynn and McFarland. Those are two enormous gets for OU. We had a solid shot at Lynn til we played OU and the game was over in the first quarter. :brad: But now it looks like we have a shot at this 4* cb named Hawkins that is currently committed to Maryland. He is a teammate of our most recent get Ankrah, hopefully we can bring that one home.
