I'd like to see SRV, Ray Charles, Papa JoJones. There's some old school big fat black dude stand up bass player , who's name I forget as well. That much soul in one spot at a time might cause some sort of cosmic disturbance though. Prolly have to have steve vai sit in and play rhythm just to moderate the soul level a bit.

Hopefully that dig will draw van in. I know you're out there, fukker.

So this is like the old "ultimate band" parlor game eh? The way I see it, you can go in two directions. You can pick those you feel were the absolute best at their disciplines, or you can try to compile a group that is harmonically in tune with each other but maybe not quite as loaded with virtuoso talent.

Me, I prefer the latter to the former. So here goes. We are, of course, assuming all of these guys are alive and in their prime.

• Trumpet-Miles Davis- I want some horns and Miles could play the fuck out of any style you put in front of him.
  
  Lead Guitar/Vocals-Jerry Garcia- Jerry could do it all, from folk, to bluegrass to jazz to straight up rock and roll.
  
  Bass/Melotron- John Paul Jones- A group this creative needs a solid workman at bass. Not only that, but JPJ cut his teeth playing jazz as a kid.
  
  Keyboards/Vocals- Steve Windwood- Just because I want to hear this group do Empty Pages
  
  Drums- Terry Bozzio- Anyone who could hang with Frank Zappa AND be perfectly comfortable laying down a 4/4 backbeat playing for Missing Persons is just the type of person to keep things solid in the rhythm section
  
  Rhythm Guitar/Vocals- John Lennon- He's by no means a guitar virtuoso. But he's steady, gifted at turning a phrase like no other and at heart would have enjoyed the hell out of jamming for 15-20 minutes at a crack.
  
  Lead vocals- Robert Fucking Plant- A group with this much sheer talent doesn't need someone capable of whiping the crowd into a frenzy. But why the hell not? And nobody was better at it than Plant.

that's one killer line up, B. If you're gonna invite terry, might as well have frank join him, as he is the master at putting together a stunning group of musicians and have them play really really brilliant, yet fukk up stuff. Joe's Garage, in addition to being hilarious, is so overflowing with musicianship, it's ridiculous. Didn't really notice it as a dumb kid as I was laughing too hard at "don't get no jizz upon the sofa, sofa" and other cerebral lyrics
