Well clearly the 'Burgh D is no joke.
I hope the Steelers win, mostly because B'More irritates me, and the winner of the AFC Final will be the winner of the Super Bowl.
As compelling as a Warner or McNabb victory might be in terms of stories, I don't see either NFC team being able to handle 'Burgh's or B'More's defense.
So, Good Luck 'Burgh.

And the Eagles defense is suddenly swiss cheese against the Ravens or Steelers? No offense but I'd stack the Eagles D up against the Ravens or Steelers at this point in the season.Tom In VA wrote:Well clearly the 'Burgh D is no joke.

When it comes to these matchups where I have no dog in the fight...
I root for where I have the most Ducks in the fight.
Honorable mention for Burg having DD on their roster... but he's not going to get in the game.
Blatimore will in fact be playing guys who can Run, Swim, and Fly... at least one extremely large one... with two nursing broken wings on the IR.
So, gotta go with Baltimore.

Re: What ever happened to mvscal?
Jim,
No, the Eagles D is more than competent - one of the top three if I'm not mistaken - the other two slots occupied by B'More and the Steelers.
The problem, as I see it, is that Flacco is on a roll right now AND the Steelers offense is generally more potent than Philly's.
Having no vested interest at all, since the Eagles are NFC East, I'm inclined to root for them to win - plus I like McNabb and Westbrook.
The "Warner" story would be another novelty. As one aged vet - Favre - crashes and burns, the other who was washed up - Warner - rises to the occasion to be Cinderella Story Part 2. That shit sells copy.
The realist in me says neither NFC team stands a chance.
My most potent observation in all of this, as a Redskin fan, is that of all the highly successfully teams in the playoffs this year there is one common denominator. Not one of them have Vinny Cerato as a GM. I hope Dan Snyder takes notice. Else the Redskins and their fans, will continue to be bystanders making highly successful objective takes on message boards like this.
I long for the MYOPIA that comes with my team being in the mix, Jim, I just don't have that luxury right now.

Re: What ever happened to mvscal?
Not a fucking chance in hell. Cerrato and the whole Portis being butt-buddies with Danny Boy means this franchise is in deep shit for a while. I felt just as confident when I heard McCain say the fundamental of our economy are strong as I did when Cerrato said the Skins have a good foundation for the future? What foundation? The team is absolutely horrible at the line of scrimmage. That is no foundation at ALL.Tom In VA wrote:I hope Dan Snyder takes notice.

Re: What ever happened to mvscal?
I'll buy your argument about the potent Steelers offense over Flaco at this point. To his credit, Flacco hasn't turned the ball over and that's been the best thing he's done thus far. However, statistically I wouldn't say he's on a roll as much as I'd say he's managing the game well and recognizing he doesn't need to force anything offensively knowing his defense isn't going to give up anything on their side.Tom In VA wrote:Jim,

The fan in me wants to see an all-PA Super Bowl but I think the Ravens would be an easier match-up for the Eagles if they make it to the Super Bowl. The Eagles played all 3 of these team in the regular season, beating 2 of them and based on how one each of these teams is playing now, you have to throw out those results. I think both Conference games would be classics.

Just some food for thought...
The Ravens and Steelers put up those defensive numbers against the likes of Cleveland, Cincy, and... Baltimore and Pittsburg. The Eagles did it against the Giants and Cowboys.
If the stats were somehow weighted for "stregth of opponents' offense," they might read differently.
Not really making much of a point here, just stirring the waiting-til-the-weekend pot.

Re: What ever happened to mvscal?
To be fair the Eagles D also played against the Browns, Cincy, Pitt and Baltimore. The team that put up the most points was the Ravens in a game that got McNabb benched. In the first 2 matchup against the Cowboys and Giants the Eagles let up a 41 and 36 points respectively but were much more effective the 2nd time they played.Dinsdale wrote:Tom In VA wrote:No, the Eagles D is more than competent - one of the top three if I'm not mistaken - the other two slots occupied by B'More and the Steelers.

The point that has to be made is how is each of these defenses playing NOW vs how they did 6, 7 or 10 weeks ago. The answer is all 3 of them are playing at a SB level though the Ravens let up a lot of yards against the Titans who also played without their best RB the 2nd half of the game.

That's really what you're going with?
"Since I brought up a nonsequitur in the form of an off-topic, completely unrelated question to UCan't, it means you have 'reading comprehension' problems."
Really?
You're truly becoming one of the lower-tier board bitches around here.
But, I'm here to help.
Some sincere advice -- the next time any response you formulate involves the words "reading comprehension," don't hit the submit button... you were about to do yourself harm with it (this is also good advice for everyone else, in the vast majority of instances).

Re: What ever happened to mvscal?
The defenses may be comparable but to say PHI is right up there with them...not seeing it. While this INTs may be subjective to the styles they are facing in division, it is still something to factor in. Any great defense is going to turn any running team into a passing team regardless. The speed and confusion generated through Baltimore creates a shitload of INTs, PHI is middle of the pack here and PIT is better, BAL owns.
McNabb would be far more prone to be forced into a mistakes facing these defenses than either Roth or Flacco.
McNabb sucks, lol.

Solid take.
I share your opinion that a PA Super Bowl would be a compelling story too and that the Eagles best chance at winning the whole thing would be if they played the Ravens.

How did that "joke" offense look to you?mvscal wrote:The point that has to be made is how each defense is going to play NEXT WEEK. How they are playing NOW is every bit as meaningless as how they played 10 weeks ago.
There is no dominant team left (not that there were any in the first place). Any team left is capable of humilating or being humiliated by any of the others.

The Steelers and Crows are getting a lot of props for their D's, and rightfully so, but Philly is right there.
The Eagle defense is NASTY.
Look at the points they've given up the last 6 games.
@ NYG 11
@ Minnesota 14
Dallas 6
@ Washington 10
Cleveland 10
@ NYG 14
They're freaking snuffing people OUT.

I see no reason whatsoever they don't shut Arizona down like Koreans at a dog buffet.
Of course, that being said, with the way the playoffs have gone this year ... watch it be a 47-45 -- or some shit -- shootout.

He is a two time NFL MVP and did win a Superbowl. That didn't happen by accident. Kurt Warner can fuck you up. Will he? Who knows?
Should be a great game on Sunday.. interesting what Dawkins had to say about Carolina's (failed) approach to covering Fitzgerald..
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/danpat ... ref=fromSI
Dawkins admits that he has no idea why Carolina didn't double-team Fitzgerald and he should never have been wide open on so many plays.
Re: What ever happened to mvscal?
The prior two Steelers/Ravens matchups could have gone either way. This matchup is no different - apart from the fact that the Ravens seem to be a little more banged up coming in.

Like I said about the Falcons game, I wouldn't have bet on the Cards', but I wouldn't be surprised if they won. Same application for this Eagles game. Warner might well carry Arizona to a win, especially if their resurgent running-game shows up again. Warner can indeed fuck up another teams defense, IF he has the time. He's also perfectly capable of a full meltdown of int's and fumbles.
It's a strange post-season. Who the hell knows what's coming?
