Olmert's Claims Revive Israel Lobby Controversy
"On Monday, Olmert claimed that he demanded and received an immediate conversation with President Bush, during which he convinced the president to overrule the wishes of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and abstain from a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.
According to Olmert, he called the White House upon hearing of the upcoming UN Security Council resolution.
"I said, 'Get me President Bush on the phone.' They said he was in the middle of giving a speech in Philadelphia. I said I didn't care: 'I need to talk to him now.' He got off the podium and spoke to me," Olmert said, according to multiple media reports."

What's your point Marty ? I'm sure any sort of crisis, specifically one as important as the crisis in the Middle East, merits the President interrupting a speaking engagement wherein .....

"Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Monday comments, in which he claimed to have ordered President Bush to prevent an American vote in favor of the UN Security Council’s Gaza ceasefire resolution and publicly shamed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the process remains a hot story in the Israeli press, and has sparked a war of words between the prime minister’s office and the US State Department.
The State Department immediately contradicted Olmert’s claims, insisting that “the government of Israel does not make US policy.” Spokesman Sean McCormack also suggested that Israel might want to “clarify or correct the record” with respect to the comments. Rice has dismissed Olmert’s claims as “fiction.”
The comments have sparked no small concern in Israel, where the fear is that Olmert’s claims to be able to order the President of the United States around will only increase public opposition in America to Israel’s influence on its foreign policy. Yet spokesmen for Olmert say that the prime minister stands behind his version of events."

The president-elect arrived at the Chevy Chase, Md., home of syndicated columnist George Will shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to a press pool report. Greeting him at the residence were other luminaries of the conservative commentariat, including the Weekly Standard's William Kristol, New York Times columnist David Brooks, and Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post.
