Cheap oil is likely to shorten the recession, which Obama needs to worsen if he is to strangle what's left of our economic freedom and move us toward socialism. Thus it's important to prevent us from drilling our own oil.

Fortunately, we don't need the oil anyway, now that we're in the era of rainbows and unicorns. We can just fill our gas tanks with Hope and Change.

President B. Hussein Obama is not stupid so I don't know why he would put this off? He supported Senator Schumer's proposal to force the Saudis to produce an additional 1 million barrels per day back in May so clearly he understands some of the supply and demand forces on prices. If additional production was good back in May, why not now? Why have OPEC increase their production when we can do the same here at home? Hell, he can start to help the economy by letting oil companies create more jobs. If allowed increased domestic production would put people to work. Rigs need to be manufactured, sites prepared, supplies moved, driiling operations need staff. On and on and on.

At the same time he might not be that bright after all. He also supported a "windfall tax" on oil profits this summer. What he and others on both sides of the isle fail to recognize is big oil is making no more in profits than other US companies. Oil companies made 8.1 cents per dollar of sales. (Source: Investor's Business Daily, Thursday May 22, 2008.) Funny thing is that is the same as all other US manufacturing companies. Far, far below what companies like Microsoft makes per dollar of sales. And just how is it that a windfall tax is going to reduce prices at the pump? Most of the time these tax increases are passed along to consumers who see the end price rise. He also seems to forget what happened the last time a "windfall tax" was levied against oil companies. Oil production shifted rapidly to the Middle East. The expected revenue from the tax was less than 25% of what conservative estimates predicted. Thanks, Mr Carter.

It is just amazing that 62% of the oil reserves under Federal Lands and 41% of natural gas reserves under Federal lands are off limits to drilling. (Source: Dept of Interior, BLM report titled "Inventory of Onshore Federal Oil and Natural Gas Resources and Restrictions to Their Development" Section 3) Would love to see President B. Hussein Obama's explanation for further restricting available domestic production.

Oil is going to go back up in price.
