Fitting that another colossal dumbfuck would offer up props to the asshat named in the subject line.
See… by Week 12 (or about a month before the “breaking news”) when Cassel proved himself to be more valuable than a possible 3rd round compensatory pick, anyone with half a brain knew the Patriots had to slap the tag on him and/or work out a deal to trade him. I took issue with any and all dumbfucks who talked about this like it had “officially” happened.
So... you want to talk about what this really means?
We can be fairly certain no team will sign Casell to an offer sheet before he signs the tender. He's not worth two first round picks, is he? Matt Millen is no longer the GM of the Lions, so I don't see this scenario playing out.
New England cannot trade Cassel until he signs the tender, so look for more news on this. For what it's worth... according to the Boston Herald, the news of Brady's surgery complications are grossly overstated. Apparently some unnamed source saw Brady dropping back and throwing passes in some unnamed place to unnamed people. I can't remember if Jon Tomase reported this or not, so one has the story's validity.
There's at least 5 (DET, MIN, TB, SF, and KC just to name "a few") teams that could use Cassel's services based upon his play down the stretch last year. Look for them to line up and start making offers. I am sure New England will milk this for a while and try to get the best deal possible without getting a Top 10-15 first round pick. They're not a big fan of giving "big" guaranteed money to unproven commodities. Also, they can't wait too long as Cassel's tender counts against the cap until they move him, i.e., they’re handcuffing themselves from signing free agents… if say, this thing drags out until June.
I don't think Cassel stays even if Brady is legitimately hurt and won't be totally healthy come Week 1. If dude does stay in NE, I’ll bet anyone here it’s not a for one year deal worth 14 million. No fucking way. They're pretty good at managing the cap and I don't foresee them tying up nearly 30 million for one position. They have way too many other needs to address on defense. Their secondary needs an overhaul (even if Harrison doesn’t retire, they need a lot of help) and the LB core is over the hill.

OK also rans. Line up and make offers. KC? DET?
Even if we do get a high pick Ucan't then Belichick will just turn around and trade down for even more picks. Either way it is working out great to rebuild that aging defense.....

Seriously?
I mean, do you REALLY think Bellichick would consider parting with Cassel?
*
Swoon…*
So what would it take to get this deal done?
Our number 3 pick overall? Perhaps our 3rd rounder too? How ‘bout if we were to throw in Tony G and Will Shields as well?
Ass hat.
Lemme get this straight:
Explain to me WHY the Chiefs would mortgage the farm for a quarterback that chucked 21 touchdowns against 11 interceptions on an 11-5 team with a veteran offensive line, proven playmakers, a solid defense,
and a steady, accurate frickin’ field goal kicker to replace a quarterback that chucked 18 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions on a team that went 2-14 with only ONE difference-maker on offense, a porous, makeshift offensive line, and the 31st-ranked defense in the NFL?
Would you seriously die in a fire, you flaming, myopic piece of crap?
Tell ya what, Sparky:
You’re running game needs a serious boost. How ‘bout we send you LJ straight up for Cassel? Ever’body wins right? We get that "next-level QB" to lead us to the Promised Land… And you get a proven thousand yard runner that “runs angry”.
Whaddya say?

May I ask a question? In the greater KC area, does the Chef's first round draft position fall between the numbers 1 and 15?

QB Rating Cassel 'barely better' 89 to 76
Compl % Cassel 'by a smidge' 63 to 55
Yards Cassel 'in a barnburner' 3700 to 2600
Furthermore,
as previously indicated... Cassel actually got better as the season progressed. He had consecutive games throwing over 400 yards. 5 out of his last 7 games, he had a QB rating over 100. Thigpen broke that mark twice, but not once after week 10. Cassel actually led his team to double-digit victories as opposed to Thigpen, whose shit play helped his team lose numerous close games. Cassell won 11 games. Thigpen won 1... against Oakland, where he passed for a lousy 162 yards. More like he didn't lose that game. For once.
Yeah. They're widely considered equal players around the league. I hear them talked about in the same breath all of the fucking time. They've definitely demonstrated similar skill sets. Thigpen, and his 55% completion rate, throws a veeerrrrrrrrery accurate ball. Yup. He is widely sought after and teams are burning up the KC phone line just trying to work a deal. I know.

...All of which netted him exactly three more touchdowns and one less interception versus a quarterback who spent his Sunday's running for his life behind a make-shift offensive line and supported by a defense who would probably play Charlie Weis's unimaginative Notre Dame offense to a freaking draw. So how did your Pats do in the playoffs again this year, cantsmack?
Wondering if we were to drop your boy into similar straights if he would flourish as well. I'm thinking not.

2008 Sacked Fact: Cassel 47 sacks, Pigpen 26 sacks.
Yup. Cassel was definitely afforded much better protection than Pigpen. He could just sit back, relax, and find the open man. Not a problem.
Any other shit arguments you wish to bring to the table? If not, considered yourself flushed, douche.

I doubt there is any interest from the Lions...the cost of draft picks and that salary...not worth it. I would've hoped they'd pursue him if the Pats let him walk and you can sign him to whatever the market dictated. To have a QB signed before the draft and the temptation to draft Stafford or Sanchez would go away. I think the Lions are more likely to go after one of the big name defensive free agents anyway...

I see you know as much about the franchise tag as mvscal does. Cassel's salary upon being traded,
will be whatever the market dictates. That figure
will not be 14 million per year.
Is everyone in the forum fucking retarded?

The problem for the Pats is that every team in the NFL knows that the Pats are now on the hook for 14 million whether Cassel rides the pine or takes them to Super Bowl XLIV. At this time he's almost untradeable for fair value unless Cassel agrees to a multi year deal with the Pats for something close to his real market value. Of course Cassel's agent also knows this.

So? That proves nothing. Cassel played in more games and had considerably more pass attempts than Thigpen. Maybe not in proportion to the above stats, but still...
Not to mention, Thigpen is a bit more mobile and will take off running a lot quicker than Cassel, thus avoiding a sack.

If you were Cassel, would you take a one year at 14 million to ride the pine and watch your value diminish... and then... who the fuck knows in 2010 and beyond?
Or do you cash your chips in now... to a 5 year 40-50 million dollar deal elsewhere? If I were him, I'd want to play
and get the best long term deal possible.
Look beyond your nose, bro.

I never said I was an expert of the NFL's CBA...
What I didn't know was there were two types of franchise tags and he's been given the non-exclusive tag. It essentially makes him a restricted free agent.
A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position in the previous year, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.
He's reportedly going to take the tender offer and being under contract for next year at the $14.65 million price tag but could be traded later. If he is traded after he accepts the tender, his salary for next year will be $14.65 million, correct? That amount applies for anyone he would go.

I understand that another team can swoop in an offer him a contract like a restricted free agent and the Pats can either match or get compensation but the franchise tag amount only applies if he stays with the Pats? I'm probably making this out to be more complicated than it probably is...
Bottom line, I don't expect him to be in Detroit regardless. They'll either stick with Culpepper, Orlovsky or even Kitna or they'll waste that #1 pick on Sanchez or Stafford. I'd love to see them throw a bunch of money at Haynesworth or Bart Scott.

Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel for a 2nd rounder????
Anybody remember what I said about the Pats never getting fair value for Cassel?
To put it in perspective, the Jaguars got a #9 overall pick for Rob Johnson.
The Pats got fucked.

Local sports hacks are saying that Vrabel was literally a throw-in. NE was going to cut him Saturday so they wouldn't have to pay him a 1 million dollar roster bonus that would kick in March 1. That's why he was officially shipped Friday for an "undisclosed pick." Little did we know, KC and NE were still negotiating compensation for Cassel.
To make matters worse, apparently Dungver and Tampa had worked out a 3 team proposal late Friday whereby Guntler went to TB, Cassel to Dungver, and NE got a 1st and a 3rd. Apparently NE declined because they'd already agreed "in principle" to KC and were finalizing the agreement. If this was any other dynamic than Belichick and Pioli, NE would have taken the proposal to KC off of the table and accepted the better deal.
In other rumors, Vrabel is a player rep and has been very outspoken about the owners opening up their books and the players deserving more money. Apparently, Kraft didn't take too kindly to some comments made by Vrabel last fall about the rift between players and owners. Scuttlebutt is... Kraft made the call to cut Vrabel. Sounds like bullshit to me, but there are "unconfirmed reports from anonymous sources" and stuff.

Fascinating... well, thanks Patsies. I hope it was as good for you as it was for us.
Let's hope Pioli at least gave an obligatory reach around before wiping his cock on the drapes.
