This might redefine the term frivolous lawsuit. I suppose I could understand it if, say, dude had some measure of success over a period of > 20 yrs, and granted, he did win Executive of the Year just a few years ago. But considering the Clippers have been the laughingstock of American pro sports teams for a couple decades, this is hilarious:
Ex-Clippers GM Baylor sues team, alleging employment discrimination

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Elgin Baylor, the former Los Angeles Clippers general manager who left the team last fall after 22 years, has sued the franchise, the NBA and team owner Donald Sterling alleging employment discrimination.
...

The lawsuit maintains that Baylor was "discriminated against and unceremoniously released from his position with the team on account of his age and his race'' and that he was "grossly underpaid during his tenure with the Clippers, never earning more than $350,000 per year, when compared with the compensation scheme for general managers employed by every other team in the NBA.''
Sure, Sterling is running neck and neck with Al Davis as the worst owner in sports, and is notoriously cheap. So you don't like the salary being offered? Here's a suggestion, Elgin: DON'T SIGN THE CONTRACT! Or maybe get yourself an agent who can negotiate a better deal. Or shop yourself around to other teams jumping at the chance to hire the legend who took Michael Olowokandi with the draft's first pick.

Yeah, age and race are the reasons he was axed after being allowed to fail miserably for 22 yrs. Incompetence certainly didn't play a role. Baylor better not get a cent out of this.

What was he axed after being allowed to fail miserably for 22 years?

That is insane. Dude is receiving some very bad advice.

Either that, or he's simply hoping to embarrass Sterling into cutting him a better out of court settlement/severance check...

Without some sort of racial smoking gun incident (has Baylor provided any documented examples or racism towards him by Sterling?) one can't work a job for 22 years before getting dismissed and then successfully claim racial discrimination as the reason for dismissal.

Age discrimination, maybe. Again, he'd need to provide documented evidence of it. Race? No way. He was black that whole time, wasn't he?

The underpaid GM gripe is just plain stupid. If Sterling is able to get people to work on the cheap then good for him. Nobody held a gun to Baylor's head, forcing him to accept a lower salary than other (more successful) GMs around the league.

Maybe Baylor saw change he could believe in.

B. Hussein Obama signed his first bill into law today. One that is a complete waste. The new law extends the time employees have to sue their employer if they are paid unfairly, the so called "Equal Pay Bill." USAToday writes "The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act makes it easier for workers to sue companies for pay discrimination and effectively reverses a 2007 Supreme Court decision that had given workers 180 days to file a lawsuit after they discovered the alleged discrimination."

Baylor will still have to prove his case. Short of Sterling being caught on tape dropping some racial blasts, I just don't see how he could possibly make this stick. I agree with what Van is saying about Baylor angling for a settlement. But even that needs to be predicated on a case that is remotely winnable. This is going to be one time when Sterling's tightwad reputation is going to help him.

He's probably crying. Being white male and all, he can't sue.

Crying? He made more money with the Lions than Baylor did with the Clippers. And now he's got NBC throwing cash at him. I'm beginning to think Matt Millen has some kind of mind control machine that makes rich people want to throw money at him.

Sue for what? He raked. All he had to do was occasionally stir from his torpor long enough to draft another receiver.
I was rolling with the linked story to the other thread more than Millen's actual pay. A stretch, I know.
