Renney should have been canned a month ago.

Sather should be clearing out his desk as well. The majority of his major moves have either been flops or major underachievers. Tortorella has a tough job ahead of him with this group. He shouldn't looked on as the fall guy if he can't turn them around because Sather has been the constant throughout these recent years.

Those moves look bad because of the style of play that Renney used. The Rangers have some speed up front and they don't use it.

They go out and beat the Bruins, then get blanked by Carolina....they haven't been consistent all year.

To be fair, Carolina is red hot right now...the Cole re-acquisition might end up being the most impactful trade from the deadline. Getting into the playoffs out East won't be easy with the Canes coming on, the Pens look revitalized, the Habs just got rid of their coach, the Panthers hung onto Bouwmeester, and Buffalo should have Miller back soon. There is going to a couple really good teams that will miss the Eastern playoffs.

Lundqvist didn't play against Carolina. They rebounded tonight and won at Nashville.

So far, so good between Tortorella and Avery...I see that Avery got his first goal since returning to the Rangers in that win last night.
Making moves at the deadline and/or a coaching change has had a positive impact on several teams in the East. Boston is still the team to beat but there is probably a pack of at least handful of teams that have a shot to get out of the East. I definitely like the bottom half of the East more than I like the bottom half of the West. Out West, it almost looks like it's a battle of attrition while in the East, somebody quite good is going to be left out.

Solid effort last night. Nice to see Avery is firmly in the dome's of NJ.

The East will probably have the most competitive series of the two conference in the first considering the gap between Detroit and San Jose down to 7th and 8th is greater than the gap from 1-8 in the East. The interesting team to watch will be Buffalo with Miller in goal and can they make a late push and bump out the Canadiens. Can't count out Florida either, just a point out of 8th.
