Heaps' video is as impressive as any prep QB I've ever seen.
2008: KingCo 4A All Conference Co-Offensive MVP; KingCo 4A All Conference Quarterback; Seattle Times MVP; Seattle PI MVP; Gatorade Washington State Player of the Year; AP State Player of the year All Classes AP 4A Player of the year; AP 4A Quarterback of the year NFL 7 on 7 Passing Tournament MVP; Big Kahuna MVP; UW Passing Tournament MVP; New Level Badger Camp 1st Team QB; US Army All American invitee 2010 class. Statistics: 203-312 (.651) for 2910 yards, 38 TD's, 4 Int's 7 Rushing TD's.
Led Skyline to a 14-0 season, as well as a Washington 3A State Championship as a sophomore in 2007 and as a junior in 2008. Threw for 3,103 yards and 31 touchdowns while earning 1st Team All-League quarterback and 3A AP All-State honors.
2-year totals: 405-648 (.625) for 6104 yards and 69 TD's, 11 Int's, 21 Rushing TD's.
Those are spectacular numbers.
He's the #1 player in the country for the 2010 class
If you watch the video, one thing you that you will notice is that Heaps really holds the ball "top-shelf" like Tedford likes. I cannot recall seeing a high school quarterback that holds the ball "top-shelf" like Heaps does.
Heaps favorite quarterback is Aaron Rodgers so that's likely where he got the throwing style from.
Here he is as a 15-16 year old soph in high school.
Both of the above pictures didn't come during Michigan's 3-9 season. The top is from 2006, the bottom is from 2007.
Jake Heaps will not end up being the top recruit in this class, nor will he end up being the top QB recruit. He's a solid prospect.

Clearly your knowledge of prep players is limited to those who sign or show interest in Kal.

Let's compare that to another prep QB.
2-year totals:
662-992 (.667) For 9678 yards and 104 TDs, 16 INTs, 29 rushing TDs, and 1147 rushing yards on 193 carries. (Note: Sacks are included in his rushing totals.)
Back to back state titles in Texas.
So if Heaps has spectacular numbers what does that make Gilbert's numbers when they are better in every single category?

Besides, I'm already cringing at the flood of "Now that's a heap of..." and "Jake's got heaps of..." horrible puns that we're sure to be subjected to, once the tv talking heads get ahold of his highlights.
Hopefully though he'll end up at Cal, in which case we'll never have to hear about him again.

I love when whoever makes these high school highlight reels puts damn near every play the player has ever made in the reel. I quit watching that like 3 minutes in, but there was one play where the receiver ran a slant in off the line and Heaps throws a "laser" a couple feet behind the receiver only 5 yards downfield. The receiver is able to plant and jump backwards to make the catch and fall down. Great fucking highlight. Horrible play by the QB but since it is a reception, let's include it. That as well as the large number of jump balls thrown instead of hitting the WR in stride.
All in all, decent talent there. He has a hell of a receiver on his team which makes him look better than he probably is. Because I don't care enough to do any research, I'm guessing USC is looking at that Skyline receiver because he seems to be the star in many of these plays rather than the QB.

Nope, it's Kasan Williams, who is going to be a junior. He is a fucking stud.

two different Skyline High Schools. One in Washington state, the other in Dallas.
though, ironically, the second coming of Ronnie Lott who decommitted from OU to Cal was also from Dallas Skyline HS....so, it's probably only a matter of time until Powell, too, ends up (thanks to the internet) dancing with Oski in Strawberry Canyon and learning to make leather jerkins and play the lute.

Sarkisian is probably under major pressure to get both of those kids to stay home. Washington has always been the second best program in the Pac behind USC and has some of the most influential and rabid boosters in this part of the country. Neuweasel left a mess, Willingham made it worse, sarkisian was put in charge of turning it around and thats going to start with what had Washington on top in the 90's, heavy recruiting in Southern California and keeping Washingtons best locals home in Seattle.

Rivals came out with their initial top 100. Heaps isn't even on the list.

Yes he is. He's the top rated player at every position on the field and when he gets to Cal he's going to lead them to several losses on their way to 4 more national championships in a row.

Well that depends. When I'm dealing with people who have a room temperature IQ on a celcius scale then it may seem like that. However with I deal with intelligent people I'm much more exciting. To the simpleton population (which you belong) I seem boring. That's because I try and keep it down to your level. It's kind of like remedial conversation. You should be very familiar with it because you major in simplicity.

So what I gather from this...
Heaps is rated a 5 star by Scout but isn't even on the Rivals top 100 that came out recently...so we shall expect this kid to go to Cal...have a decent college career then fizzle in the NFL like 99% of Cal QB's? Sup Kyle Boller, Reggie Robertson et al...
plus this kid won't be able to win games in the Eastern Time Zone we already know Cal can't do that when they travel east...see games v Tennessee, Maryland, et al...
carry on

I guess they're just not as impressed by him as Scout. Rivals rates him a 5.8 (low 4-star). It's weird how down they seem on him. They definitely seem to like Hinder (who is a Cal lock) more than Heaps. Whatever, I'll take the judgment of Mark Richt, Les Miles, Tedford, Norm Chow, and Nick Saban over theirs.
BTW, Gilbert's dad was a qb at Cal. Too bad the kid had to grow up a Longhorns fan.

Hinder has ties to Cal, and Cal may lead....but I don't think he's a lock. no one in Colorado seems to think that, at least.

This is a weak year for prep QB's, so even those guys are taking a look at a lot of tape for various QB's.
But back to your original point, you can't objectively say that his tape is the best you have ever seen. That or you haven't seen much tape on HS QB's.

Sad really for Cal. Dad's have a huge influence over where their kids play. Guess dad would rather he play for Mack, and can't say that I blame him.

Actually, Gale is a Cal man.
His kid grew up in Tejas and grew up a Horns fan....and it was always "the kid's" dream team.
As a Cal man... he put's his kids dreams before his.
I have nothing but respect for a "parent" that puts his kids dreams ahead of his own... and "supports" their decision.
It's just the difference in folkways and education between Tejas and California.
Gale grew up in California... and isn't the sick kinda parent that pushes his own wishes on his "kid" like the Tejas parents do.

You can keep your California folkways and your sick parent pushing his own wishes crap. We have all heard about the Cali parent. SoCal paints a vivid picture of it all too well. No thanks, we do much better here.
But overall you missed the point, but that is hardly surprising. If the dad was so proud of his days at Cal and his school, his kid would have been in Cal gear from the moment he was born. Kid would have gone to every Cal home game until such time as he reached HS and had film sessions on Saturday morning. Cal would just be in the family blood so to speak without even a single nudge.

Fuck you guys, the worst and most outrageous parents I have seen in youth sports were at the USSSA Elite World Series and supporting the Houston Banditos and the Central Texas Raiders, I saw drunken parents of Raiders players being escorted off of Disneys premises after they had lost a game and if you want to see asshole parents to the extreme, watch the Florida teams in the Pop Warner Bowls on TV someday.
My teams may train harder than most others and beat your team by as wide a margin as possible but they wont be loud and obnoxious about it. This morning they won 19-1, did the good game hand shake and their wasnt a peep of cheering in the other teams face after the game, just business. Goes with the team moto, "Scoreboards are Louder than Words"
