Texas has a photo ID bill before the legislature this session and it is expected to pass. The last session saw the bill rewritten to say ID rather than photo ID. The public questioned what an ID without a photo proved and as such passage by a decent margin is expected this year.
That said the Dems are going to the racism card and yelling voter intimidation as loudly as they can. DNC is thinking of running ads here against the bill.
Seriously, how is this racist or voter intimidation? Texas already has a law that says every person over the age of 18 must have a valid photo ID. For those that don't have or want a driver's liscense they issue an identification card. This new bill would just require a voter to show their already required ID to the poll worker.

Wow. I'd heard rumors that Texas had abandoned the Bill of Rights. Thanks for the confirmation. You will now show me your travel papers.

Dude, is against the bill of rights when you are asked for a picture ID to cash a stimulus check, drive a car, rent a movie, get a library card, get into a gay bar, board a plane, etc. etc. et-freaking-cetera?
I guess it's too much to ask someone to prove who they are when voting for a person that may be called on to make decisions in putting men and women in harms way, taking money off our kids tables, you get the message.
Bsmack, I have to believe you're trolling, nobody sucks this bad.
Speaking of violating civil rights, why are you dem's afaid to allow union members to have a right to privacy when voting, re: cardcheck policy. What are you afraid of? They might actually fear that if they don't vote the way the union wants they may lose their job or their knee cap. Nah, teamsters have never done anything like that.

Bill of rights? Voting?
Try again. Show me the word vote anywhere in the Bill of Rights.
That is funny but sad at the same time. When I lived in PA, a coworker openly admitted to voting multiple times in a Presidential election. He voted early that morning at his polling place. At lunch he went and voted for his dad who was in Florida. On his way home he swung by his brothers polling place to vote for him since he was out of town on business.

How about this?
Amendment XXIV fn16 [ Annotations ]
Section. 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
I seem to recall that I had to pay a fee to the State of New York the last time I renewed my driver's license. And I don't think I was alone. Requiring photo ID in that regard to vote violates the 24th Amendment, at least in an election for a federal official.

Terry,
It would take a lawyer to make that stretch.
Fine, then I am ok with a Federal ID that is issued for free when a person registers or changes their registration.
Please tell me you can't be ok with voters openly voting multiple times?

Not only do you not make up your god awful pathetic jokes, but you also just rehash some shit that Michael Savage repeats. Do all of you conservative posters not even have a key board? Do you just cut and paste shit you find from around the net?
What part of this election did you not understand where your kind was considered to fucking stupid to take seriously anymore? Enjoy being insulted for the rest of your lives, it's not worth treating you as human.

Not sure. Depends on the person. I still haven't seen one thought out response to asking for a photo ID from those opposed other than Terry's. I don't think that it would stand up in court either though, but at least it is a response.

Actually it would make sense to carry a photo I.D. for when you are stopped by the police for random searches and questioning. That way, your identity can be verified and you can be allowed to go on your merry way.
If you don't have anything to hide, you have nothing to worry about. Only criminals need worry.

No, it wouldn't. It would how ever make voter fraud just a tad bit more difficult.
And Terry's weak assarguement is easily shot out of the water with the free voter ID thing.
You sad pathetic fukks want this for 2 reasons and both of them suck.
First off, you realize that there are plenty of layabout fukking bums out there who just might consider putting down the remote or ripple bottle long enough to vote so long as they have to do nothing other than show up. The slightest inconvenience could be enough to dissuade them.

OK, so I will contact my State Congressman and Senator and emplore them to demand that picture ID's be made available to indegents that can't afford them.
It shouldn't be problem, they can just ask the Kenyan for some of the "stimulus" money to offset the cost, hell if Mr. "I'll go line by line and eliminate pork spending, except for the one that studies how to make pigs not smell" has all of "our" cash to throw around why not reform voting fraud?
Better yet, I am a resident of Texas and I would not be going out on a limb to speak for my fellow citizens in saying that if put to a popular vote either an ammendment to our State Constitution or as a special part of tax revenue to be set aside, we would provide cost free public ID cards the same as the ones currently issued as a non-drivers license that does come at a minimal fee and for some unknown reasons, democrats main voting block can't afford this, gee, I wonder why that is.(fukk your run-on sentence smack in advance)
See we have some problems that are inherently different to our State, we are over run by illegal aliens who vote, paid voting(40 ozers and such) is common place ,and WE CARE.
One other thing unique to Texas is that unlike similar border states that have an almost identical per-capita tax revenue re: Kalifornia, under a Republican Governor and Congress we have a budget surplus. Can you imagine that, a freaking surplus and no state layoffs or limiting of services to boot.
So counselor, we can afford it. We want to afford it, and what the hell are you people so scared of? Do not think that Texans think we are better and yes we are a bunch of redneck hicks who are not well recieved by many of you, the thing is, we don't give a fuck.

why not have a two-in-one card?
produce a national photo ID and say that it's only for legal citizens, then let it double as a voting card.
it gets around Terry's legal loophole, you can vote safely without black guys voting twice and mexicans can't steal your jobs. problemo solvo.

Not in New York it isn't.
In New York, you can get a driver's license or you can get a non-driver ID. You can't get both.
If the non-driver ID becomes a freebie, then you're violating a different portion of the Constitution (Amendments V and XIV), unless you also make the drivers' licenses free. That'll be the day.
Interesting, btw, that some people in here are considering the Constitution a "technicality" or "loophole." Last time I checked, by definition it's the supreme law of the land.
