South African men are 'raping women to cure them of being lesbians'


Lesbians living in South Africa are being raped by men who believe it will 'cure'* them of their sexual orientation, a report has revealed.

Women are reporting a rising tide of brutal homophobic attacks and murders and the widespread use of 'corrective'* rape as a form of punishment.

The report, commissioned by international NGO ActionAid, called for South Africa's criminal justice system to recognise the rapes as hate crimes as police are reportedly failing to take action over the spiralling violence.

The extent of the brutality became clear when Eudy Simelane, former star of South Africa's national female football squad, became one of the victims last April.

Simelane, one of the first women to live openly as a lesbian and an equality rights campaigner, was gang-raped and beaten before being stabbed to death 25 times in the face, chest and legs...

EMERYVILLE, Calif. (EP) Five members of a small religious group have been charged with the beating death of a 25-year-old Korean woman, who police say was killed during a ceremony to "cast out her demons."

Kyung-A Ha reportedly died during an all-night prayer meeting held in mid-March at an apartment in Emeryville, near San Francisco. She was struck at least 100 times over a six-hour period and had 10 broken ribs, according to police, who say she lay dead in the apartment where she was killed for four days before authorities were called. Five women were arrested, including Eun Park, 30, founder of the Jesus-Amen Ministries, Park's mother Hwa Ra, 52, cult director Jung Sin, 22, and two teenage Bible college students from Russia.

Ha came to the U.S. from South Korea two months earlier to visit her sister, who concluded that she was possessed by demons and arranged to have her visit Park. Park and her mother say they "laid hands" on Ha to cast out demons. The official cause of death was listed as "blunt trauma." The death was not reported immediately because Park reportedly believed Ha's spirit would return from a journey to heaven.

Kenyan police say they have jailed 19 people suspected of burning to death 11 elderly Kenyan men and women accused of being witches in a case that has horrified the east African nation.

A mob in the Kisii area of west Kenya went from house to house, identifying people on a list and burning them to death in their homes.

"The police arrested 19 people on Thursday morning," Kenya's deputy police spokesman Charles Owino said.

"These people were interrogated and once we gather information they will be charged in court."

Despite the peaceful co-existence of traditional African beliefs, Christians and Muslims in Kenya, there is widespread suspicion of sorcery, particularly in the west, which has a long history of witch doctors and faith healers.

Of course we don't know if those witches were also Lesbians and Queers, and of course that's important...

No where does the article suggest that such intolerance and misguided "therapy" techniques are part of any official school curriculum. This same sort of jock mentality is plenty present in Texas and so forth. How do we know these "Africans" you're so quick to de-humanize are even black? They may have been white sturdy fellows from an affluent private school, probably rugby players. What's next, are you going to impugn all Arabs for the few thousand honor killings each year?
