Went to the Iowa state championship game tonight. Watched Ames finish off an unbeaten season. Maybe the best high school team I've ever seen in Iowa. Harrison Barnes might be the best recruit in the nation next year. Every school in the country is after him. He is an unreal talent. I saw guys like Ricky Davis, Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, Raef Lafrentz all play ball in high school in this state but none of them were even close to this kid. He's about 6'7 (still growing), unbelievably athleticism. Can handle the rock, can post up, can shoot, can pass, and can throw down. He will be in a dunk contest in the NBA someday very soon.
This team could match up well with just about any high school in the country. Just remember the name.......Harrison Barnes. Iowa and ISU are recruiting him. He lives in Ames. His mom is employed by Iowa State. He's good friends with ISU coach Greg McDermott's son (who is an outstanding player on Ames High). But ISU cannot financially compete with schools like UNC or Dook and so my guess is he'll end up at either of those schools. Florida, Kansas and UCLA still have a shot at him too. Every big name college basketball coach has been hanging around Ames, Iowa this past year. They'll only have him for a year, so whoever gets him better enjoy him while they can.
