WTF??? How fucking retarded does one have to be to drive into a State Trooper barracks drunk??? Chuck Darwin needs to step to the plate and do his duty with this guy.
A Rochester man was accused of driving drunk early today as he attempted to collect a friend, who had also been charged with driving while intoxicated, from an area police station.
New York State Police stopped Yvonne Benedict, 44, of Rochester for a traffic violation while she was driving on Interstate 390 in Gates early today, said State Police Sgt. Charles Scott. She was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and was taken to the State Police barracks on Scottsville Road in Chili. Troopers said she is facing a felony charge because she had been convicted of DWI within a decade.
Steven Luertzing, 43, also of Rochester, arrived at the station about 2:45 a.m. to take Benedict to her home, but troopers noted that he smelled like alcohol and intervened, Scott said.
Troopers said Luertzing admitted he had been drinking. He also failed field sobriety tests, Scott said. Following a breathalyzer test, troopers determined he had a blood-alcohol content of .13 percent, over the .08 legal threshold for driving while intoxicated, Scott said.
Luertzing was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
A third motorist, who had not been drinking, later collected the pair from the station, Scott said.
Benedict and Luertzing are both expected to answer their respective charges at a later date. Benedict will appear in Gates Town Court and Luertzing will answer his charge in Chili Town Court, Scott said.
