Here's a hint: You, or a crescent wrench, either one is correctly considered a type of tool. A bratwurst may at least loosely be considered a type of hot dog. You got those two examples correct. Those are types of additions, or similar things. Unfortunately, those two examples bear no relation to the original "Handgun (rifle)" example, which, if anything, is an example of opposites, not similar things. Handgun (rifle) is kinda like Yugo (luxury automobile)

A rifle is in no way considered to be a type of handgun. It's not an addition to be denoted in parentheses, since it's not a similar thing.

So, rather than simply admit your error and move on, what do you do? You attempt to debate the point, using examples which only serve to show just how wrong you were in the first place. The examples you used could've easily been given by ucan't, to demonstrate how to correctly use the parentheses when denoting additions. Instead, you used them to unintentionally demonstrate how badly you screwed up your original point.
