Government contributes nothing to the GDP...

A couple of other small business owners come by my shop yesterday afternoon. We crack a couple of brews and one starts going off about how all these gubmint workers contribute nothing to the GDP.and that with the 30% or so of our population working for the gubmint, and another 7% or so sucking off the gubmint tit...that until the size of gubmint is reduced, instead of being increased, that our economy will not recover. So about 65% or so of the population supports the rest of the system. Pretty fucked up.
And that in fact, our GDP is actually greater when you take out all the non contributing government leaches, the social services sucking welfare leaches, and based the GDP on those who produces the actual market value GDP..that the portion of our population carrying the GDP makes it pretty good, even with the 12% declines in the last 2 quarters.
But then we all knew that, and carry on with the gubmint stimulus programs, where gubmint spends money on gubmint. Fucking leaches.

-30% of our population do not work for the government. That's ridiculous.
-What about government contracts? When Lockheed is contracted by the government to build planes for the military, aren't Lockheed's profits from those contracts included in our GDP? Seems like there must be about a bazillion government contracts to private industry, and all those private industries contribute to our GDP.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean...

Government contracts contribute to GDP because they are performed by private business.
Government by and in its inefficiency, and the sheer numbers of workers to perform the jobs, remove capital from the GDP equation. Perhaps the better question is..Does the government itself add value to any group of inputs and then produce a product that contributes to GDP ?
mvscals analogy is true, in that the inefficiency and the governments need to feed on that contributes to at least a 35% reduction in value or output for the same amount of dollars were a private business without excessive gubmint restrictions to utilized the same dollars.
