Yeah the complete lack of skill and ability of a 3 man band to produce that kind of sound, consistently for 30 years really sucks and Geddys ability to play 2 instruments at one time makes them a piece of crap band.

These guys are musicians. After "Grace Under Pressure," I just lost interest... This is the last song that I've liked from these guys. I don't listen to the lyrics in general and just focus on the actual music and sound. I think Alex went too spacey on the effects and I don't like Geddy because he sounds like a castrated male taking hormones originating from sheep. Other than that, Geddy is a very good musician.

Neil Peart's style was what drew me into listening to these clowns eons ago. Best technical drummer I've ever heard. No Van, I'm not going to say Alex Van Halen is better. Keith Moon yes... not Alex =VH=...

After awhile I've learned to appreciate Alex's coordination of sound to the pace of the band's methodical style. His overuse of effects started to disturb me as I liked the album "Grace Under Pressure," but he kept fucking up his sound with more stuff.

Several months ago I started acquiring effects and seeing how they can change my sound. The old sound was like what this place is... stale and predictable.

AP, I totally agree about Lifeson's overuse of effects. I hate overly processed guitar tone, and that includes Vai, too. I love his basic tone; hate his Harmonizer based whiz bang tones.

EVH uses a little too much chorus and phaser for me, too.

As for Moon being better a better drummer (technical or otherwise) than Peart, well, no. There are better drummers, especially technically, but Moonie ain't one of 'em.

smackaholic made good point recently, about guys like Peart. Why the need for such monstrous kits? Buddy Rich made it happen with a Coke bottle and a couple of chopsticks.

Geddy's a great musician. Too bad he looks like a forlorn 80's era flannel lesbian. Worse, his singing voice sounds like strangled queef.

I meant Keith Moon is/was a better drummer than Alex Van Halen. Waaaaay beter I hate to see guys like him and John Bonham go down for the count. Mebbe that's what "Spinal Tap" was all about with its drummer references.

You got me though... I never liked effects other than a good Mesa Boogie amp. I was criticized for hiding my mistakes and played through a dry sound on the Boogie. Now I hear there is a Boogie Mk-5 that guys that I know that play really good compared to me are raving about.

Is the Mark V available now? Last I checked, a month or two ago, it was listed on Mesa's website but dealers hadn't yet received any.

I'm slightly curious about it, as I loved my Mark IV. The main thing about the Mark V is that it includes the Mark IIC+ and the Mark I, and I have no need for either of those. For me, the Mark V might as well still be the Mark IV.

If I were to do a Mesa again it'd be the Road King II, or another Mark IV, but probably the Road King II.

I heard the Fresno Guitar Center has/had a few of the Mk-V's. They are very pricey from what I'm told. I too have a Mk-IV that I am cool with. The only thing I've heard is that this new amp is more versatile and people are suppose to fall in love with it. So you are probably right on the emulations of other amps.

shutyomouth has a version of a Mk-II... if I remember correctly. He has the same amp as a guy that sold me the Randall 4x12 cabinent back in 1986. That guy was friends with warren DiMartini of RATT. I think Warren had the same set up. Those amps are/were awesome.

So if this Mk-5 can do what you've said, then there is no need for another type of rock amplifier.

Well, for one thing, the Mark V loses the Mark IV's reverb. No reverb. That's a big bummer to me. Other than that, it has the IIC+'s metal tones and the Mark I's cleans.

No Progressive Linkage, no assigning of cabinets to different channels, no individual channel assignable Lone Star sourced reverb, no Lone Star sourced cleans, including the Lone Star's gritty "Tweed" and "Brit" cleans...no ability to use both 6L6s and EL34s, in any combination you wish, on any channel.

Yeah, I'd go with the RKII. It'll do more, and it's less fiddly. It has Mesa's best cleans, other than the Lone Star Special's Class A cleans, and by mixing EL34s with 6L6s on the "Liquid" channel it has some of the best soloing tones ever, and you still have that massive Dual Recto fourth channel for metal rhythm crunch.

I wish the Mark V still had reverb but okay, I admit it, even though I'd prefer the Road King II I wouldn't exactly turn my nose up at a Mark V either. I'm sure it's seriously bad ass. It has the Mark IV's lead channel, so it has to be good.

No reverb on the Mk-5? That doesn't make sense. What makes sense is the Mk-5 would be marketed as a generic quality amp to a larger crowd that doesn't differentiate what the tubes in different stages in the amp can do. Hmmm.
