I've been hearing that Calipari's Memphis hoops team is about to be assraped by the NCAA, but I haven't heard anything concerning whatever it is you're talking about here, and Bama...
So, what, is this about someone's paternity, or is it about a bunch of kids driving new cars?
Anything from the NCAA about any of it?

Is this trouble from the Shula regime or from Saban?

BtH, Sam seems to be intimating that this new case is some new thing that's being added on top of the textbook deal.
No? Same case?

Student-athletes at 'Bama were selling their used books after the semester and pocketing the money. This is an NCAA violation, though it's a pretty fucking stupid one. I guess the potential for abuse is there, but Jesus-I was on a scholarship and I sold my books back all the damn time.
i can see why that's a violation, it's like selling tickets. student-athelete didn't buy the books, the AD did. i don't see the "just cause i did it" as a real legitimation of the practice.... :D

Selling textbooks??
I couldn't possibly care less. For all the money Bama's players bring to that university, that city and that state, fuck it, they should be able to sell their textbooks, their sperm, their virtue
and their sisters.
Selling textbooks? Talk about your victimless crimes.
Besides, they're
Bama textbooks, from
Bama football players. Those books are literally "like new." Bama's players are actually providing a
service to their fellow students.

as a human being, i agree with that. you give the kids the "property" of the books for school (that it's a de facto assumption that they are "textbooks" is proof that american higher education is McDonalds--)...and so they do what they will with them. Textbook screed for another time.
the buyback value for books is probably less than 15% of beginning semester cost (yet another twist of the screw in the screw job that is higher education run by economists and marketing wizkids). i suspect selling back Chemistry! isn't making any Bama player "make it rain" at the Gold Club in the ATL.

To me, a "selling their textbooks scandal!" is the very definition of much ado about nothing.

That's what I'm saying.
My point was that they weren't being provided a benefit not available to normal students. Normal students sell their books back all the time, whether the books were initially provided through a scholarship or not.
but, normal students are making the original exchange from moneys. scholarship athletes are getting that from the university/AD. so, really, you could argue that given the initial purchase/investment....the return money should go to the original buyer, the AD. No?
it depends on how you interpret the scholly moneys.

U$C saves their student-athletes the trouble and prints their textbooks on legal tender.

socal, you gotta admit, it's a helluva recruiting tool. As wealthy as UCLA is, they oughtta look into doing something similar. Since they're in Westwood, they also might consider using Quality Asian Pussy as the stuff with which they bind their texts, with Token Blonde Hottie being the default font.

Probably Auburn. :D
And now it'll be 'Bama's turn to blow the whistle on Auburn.
What happened to Auburn for that grade fixing thing? I remember something about Auburns teams GPA going from around the bottom of division 1 to like #4, just ahead of Duke, in one year and when it was looked in to Auburn professors had been giving football players As and had never even seen the student in their class.

They can't even be bothered to interview their "key accusors?"
Sounds like they're just not too shit-hot worried about them then, huh?

If they sold their sisters then wouldn't they also be selling their wives and I think that's illegal. Even in Alabama.

Not as long as Boss Hogg, Enos and Uncle Jessie are still blowing up the still, 24/7, on TBS.
