So CAL meets expectations for this year and does well....possibly wins it all.....they get awarded 12 MNC's? Elaborate.

I'm not sure I understand... Cal is on its way to its 12th MNC in a row and Ted Miller is confirming it.

Finishing 4th in your conference gets you a MNC? Nice to know as RICE is totally miscounting theirs then.

Technically, mJew is correct. kal will "go for" its 12th straight MNC, and like the previous 11 times they will FAIL. As a matter of fact, they will FAIL to "go for" their 87th straight MNC.

They'll also be going for their first legitimate Pac 10 title since the 50's, and they'll fail there, too. Even if they beat USC, they'll still fail.

Once they fail at that we all know we'll see the annual thread about how call got screwed by a bad call. Once we're done with that meltdown we'll see Cal get invited to some minor bowl named after some outdoor gardening tool. After they get rolled in their bowl game Mtool will come in and tell us how the bowl game didn't matter or how their best players were injured. We'll all tell him what a fucking idiot he is, then he'll get his board bitch award for the 3rd year in a row.

Which will also be followed up by him telling us about how much harder Kal players have to study. And that the grind of academics, lack of sleep, time zone changes, etc inevitably cost Kal any chance at making a BCS bowl.

Also, what about your team's 40 times?
In the pursuit of their twelth straight national title no philisophical tenet has been more key to Cal football's success than their strict adherence to The Al Davis Principle.
Disregard that pesky "good football players" thing. Overrated. How you do during the off-season, in shorts, for your track team, that's what will guarantee gridiron championships continued failure.

Psst.... you losers may want to make it about " the truth".
But, In actuality it was about what the "beat" writer''s thoughts were.
Oh course, none of you were bright enough to figure it out in the first place.
This is just another reason why they're not too bright in the College Football forum.
m2, regarding the projected Pac 10 champ, who do you think the consensus pick will end up being, once enough writers are polled?
Pac 10 beat writers...national writers...cub journalists for the Cal-Picayune & Flight Planning student newspaper....
Total up everyone's pick, and Cal will not be the betting choice.
Seven-in-a-row, that'll be the consensus betting choice.

Van,
What do I think will happen ???
$C gets the "death penalty" if they were any other school.
You can't pay 17 year old kids($C).... more than you'd pay a 1st round kid for the Niners.

No, you can't, and that's why USC's football program does no such thing.
There is no way in hell they'll get the death penalty, just for the Reggie thing. No matter how much people want to try and combine the O.J. Mayo thing with the football program, it's not going to happen. At worst, they'll get a slap on the wrist.
USC football is getting the death penalty like you're winning a Pulitzer.
However, hope does still spring eternal for you. If the NCAA pisses Pete off badly enough with this crap, yeah, he might just get fed up to where he says fuck it and grabs the brass ring from the NFL.
There's your best case scenario. If that happens, all of CF loses. Pete is one of the good guys in the sport, and he's huge in the community. With the lone public exception of the Mark Sanchez press conference he's nothing but positive, 24/7, and he's a helluva ambassador for the sport. There aren't a dozen programs out there who wouldn't kill to have him leading their program.
But yeah, that's your best hope, and probably your only hope.
Here's the kicker, though. Even when USC went into the toilet (for them), for the better part of fifteen years, Cal still couldn't scabdick their way into a single Pac 10 title. So, hell, even if Pete bails, it doesn't necessarily mean Cal's fortunes will change.
That is, unless Pete bails...only to end up at Cal. Then, finally, yeah, your long nightmare of never winning fuck would finally end, and you'd be sucking that dude's balls like the biggest queen in Frisco couldn't even imagine.

No school will ever get the death penalty again unless they have violations that are beyond our ability to comprehend right now. After what happened with SMU, the NCAA is very, very, VERY gunshy about using that particular tool.
I'm with Van on this one. USC will be punished, but the punishment won't amount to much more than a slap on the wrist. Of course, just the thought of that could be enough to convince Petey and his feathered taint hair to bail in advance. That would have the greater impact on USC's fortunes, at least potentially.

Agreed, the NCAA will stop so far short of the death penalty that they would need to hire me to see it. Hell, they won't even get lack of institutional control even though they are right there.
Slap on the wrist, they keep all their wins but save maybe one for the Bush deal. Bush still keeps the Heisman. Pete stays, cause he is a much better college coach than NFL coach.
And SC still wins the Pac 10, Cal will lose to someone they shouldn't, prolly on the road.

Doubtful they'll even be predicted ahead of Oregon. Oh, and in the event SC tanks (extremely unlikely of course), and it comes down to Cal and Oregon, you can pretty much pencil in Oregon as Pac 10 champs since they've got the Urine Unis in Autzen. There's a reason Cal went to the yellow claw marks down the pants - so the piss stains blend right in when they play on the road.
Oh, and I'm calling my shot right now -- Minny will beat Cal straight up. New stadium, improving team, spirits are high within the program...plus Cal will be on an emotional high from duping Priceline and time zone configurations, which'll cause them to overlook the actual football game.

Yeah, but what if Cal wakes up on Saturday morning, and they're still in Berkeley? They they are, having partied all Friday night, Cissyroo style, and now they've got to scramble just to catch a plane that'll get them to Minnesota in time for that day's game.
Also, Minnesota inexplicably got moved out of the Pacific Standard Time Zone, a fact which Cal's travel secretary missed, so now Tedford's got to go dorm room to dorm room, unpeeling all the Cal players from each other.
"Wake up, you freaks! We got a four hour plane ride to catch, in forty five minutes! We're barely gonna make it to the stadium in time for the game! If I can't get ahold of that stupid bitch who fucked up our flight plans again, we may not even have any helmets with us this time. Goddammit, what is that stench in here??"
"Wha? Huh? Four hour plane ride? I thought you said Minnesota was in Oregon? Coach, c'mon, forty five minutes? I won't even have time to do my nails."
"Do 'em on the plane. C'MON! LET'S GO!!"

I sure don't see Oregon finishing below UCLA, so I gotta go with the Sporting News picks over the Phil Steele picks.
m2, notice though who's picked to win the conference, in both polls?
It ain't Cal. Basically, people are just hoping this is finally the year when USC falls on its face. There aren't too many people predicting it, but this year people are at least more hopeful of it.

Add... Phil Steele to the PAC 10 beat writer... Ted Miller's thoughts
The most "accurate" predictor in College Football... says
"Cal is Dark Horse for College Football National Title"...
Phil Steele, just released his College Football preview and he has Cal at #9 to start the season.
He thinks Cal will go 11-1 with our only loss this season to $C.
And he thinks Cal should make the $C game very close possibly pulling it out which would put Cal in the BCS MNC Championship game... undefeated.
... of course, Phil had to confer with "the truth" before he went ahead and agreed with the PAC 10 beat writer.
