I think the Titans
would have played Vince if ... he wasn't half psycho, and
oh ... if he was a better QB than the great Kerry Collins.
Add Vince Young's name to a very long list of athletes who need to extract their head from their @ss, shut their yap, get BETTER, and cash VERY large checks in the process.
Tough gig.

As a Titan fan, I'm on the fence. He is 18-11 I think as a starter so I wouldn't pull out the bust card on his performance on the field. Off the field and in the head...well, the wonderlic don't lie.

It's a baby step alright. What he's saying is that he doesn't want to work or, heaven forbid, actually COMPETE for the job. No, Vince wants it handed to him on a silver platter.

A QB's W-L record is not like a pitcher's ERA, especially on a run-the-ball-first-and-then-let-the-defense-win-the-game team like Tennessee. VY's personal W-L record isn't indicative of much of anything, besides the fact that he's on a pretty good team.
Tennessee's W-L record last season without VY might be a bit more telling statistic.

I don't see this as a classic "play me or trade me" stance by V. Young here, but it's in that neighborhood.
Mostly I see it as Young just not being very bright.
Of course the Titans would like to play him, given his salary and the draft pick they used on him.
W-L record can be overrated in evaluating a QB, no doubt.
On the other hand, no player on the field can do MORE to influence a team's fortune than the QB.
When on the field, and to his credit, Young has won more than he's lost.
NFL fans, would you want V. Young QBing your team?
Raise your hand.
Not me.

Not me, either; not in the NFL.

True, absolutely, but that fact doesn't make what I just said there any less true. Both things are true.
I also don't confine what I said there to VY.
"Satan's Pelting Hitler With Snowballs" is a long ago archived thread I wrote about the Trent Dilfer vs Kerry Collins Super Bowl match up, wherein I made the same point. That was, what, nine years ago?
Point being, I've always felt that way about a QB's W-L record, and how it's so often an overrated statistic.

It's an overrated stat indeed. I mean look at Vick- he's got a great win-loss record and look how he turned out. He fuckin sucks as a quarterback.
What I'd like to see if I were a Titan fan is for Young to say all the right things, say he's looking forward to competing for the QB position and how he loves working with Collins, etc., and then surprise everyone by showing up to training camp looking as in shape as ever, kicking ass in workouts, and then beating the living shit out of Collins in the preseason games, giving Fisher no choice but to start Young on opening day.
But that won't happen because he's a dumbass and probably works about as hard as JaMarcus Russell.

I'm not sure I agree with the take that Michael Vick sucks as a QB.
He might not regain his form -- prison time has a way of taking it away from a guy.
Vick was a highly unconventional QB, but he had a record of 38-28 as a starter.
And this is how the Falcon defenses ranked in his five years as starting QB.
19th
32nd
14th
22nd
22nd
It's pretty awful.
Vick made plays and won games, bottom line.

Often times, for the other team.

I dunno, the guy won 58% of his games in a situation where his defense averaged being ranked just 22nd in the league.
I wouldn't classify that as "often" making plays for the other team.
Vick was a peculiar QB and his best days might be past him now, but I prefer to give him some credit for being a pretty effective player.

I didn't want him from the beginning, but he was drafted. He did show signs of improvement. Considering he was starting as a rookie, he was looking a lot better until he lost his fucking mind. I still think he's a great athlete, but nowhere near worth the money spent on him. I prefer an aged Collins at the healm right now. If they can get a 6-pack of beer for VY, I'd take it just to get rid of the contract. YAFJ is right to an extent. If he had the right attitude and "wanted it" bad enough to "earn it", he may tun into a deece QB. I don't think we'll ever know that though because he does not seem willing to change.
