I just happened to stop in at my bank today at the Dept. of Commerce at the same time two people were shot by wolfman ERRRR some elderly tard with a rifle. My bank is four blocks north of the Holocaust Museum. When I came out, I looked south across the Mall and didn't notice any commotion or anything. Just the regular tourist crowds walking around. Didn't think anything of it.

Sad shite. I was there in 07 and I never thought some whack job would come in and shoot the place up. I guess there are enough whack jobs in any city where a Jewish museum would be a target for a shooting.

Sad fucking shit.

There was a shooting Monday across the street from the Navy Yard, too. I know, hard to imagine people shooting guns at each other here in DC. Apparently, some dude shot & killed his g/f on 5/31, and her funeral was Monday at the church near the Navy Yard Metro station. Dude who killed her was a fugitive, and apparently a brilliant one - he showed up at the funeral, where law enforcement officers recognized him. A pursuit ensued, dude took shots at the officers, who returned fire and were better at it. Another funeral is now pending.

How did I completely miss the fact he showed up to the funeral and then took off? Jesus.

That's just what I heard through the grapevine; hadn't heard that it was suicide.

Well, along with museums and perpetual PBS Holocaust documentaries, one of the main supports of the Jewish people is their sense of humor. And I really think they've outdone themselves with this one:

A Tel Aviv woman has been searching through Israeli rubbish dumps after she said she accidentally threw away a mattress containing $1m (£700,000).

The woman, identified only as Anat, had bought a new mattress for her mother as a surprise and threw away the old one, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported.

But when the older woman returned home she "almost fainted", as she had hidden her entire life savings inside.

A search of three landfill sites has so far turned up nothing, said the paper.

When the woman realised her mistake, she rushed out to retrieve the mattress but it had already been taken away to the Hiriya local dump.

She hurried to the dump, only to find the mattress had been shipped to one of two larger landfill sites, along with another 3,000 tonnes of rubbish collected that day.

A search of the first site, Ganei Hadas, proved fruitless so she moved onto Efeh, close to the Dead Sea.

Yitzhak Borba, the director of the Efeh site, told Israel's Army Radio the woman had been "totally desperate" when she arrived.

He was reported to have kept some of his staff on overnight to fend off treasure hunters and help the woman.

But despite being unable to retrieve the mattress and its hidden fortune, "Anat" appeared philosophical about her loss.

"People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad," she said.

There has been no comment from her mother.
