Another sanctimonious Republican asshole, charter member of "Promise Keepers", gets hoisted on his own petard.
Seriously, I was living in Nevada when this guy first got elected to Congress. I couldn't understand then how such a feeble sounding moron could get elected, except that he had a pretty face and the backing of big money. The fact that he had risen so far and so fast in the party just goes to show how desparate they are.
Ensign quits Senate GOP leadership post

WASHINGTON – Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada has stepped down from his leadership post one day after admitting he carried on a marital affair with a woman who was on his campaign staff.
Ensign conveyed his decision in a phone call with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who said he had accepted the resignation.
Ensign was chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, the fourth-ranking spot in the leadership.
He remained away from the Capitol during the day, and aides declined to answer additional questions about the affair.
A timeline issued Tuesday said Ensign was involved in a "consensual affair" from December, 2007 through August, 2008. There has been no indication of why the senator decided to announce his infidelity when he did.

So you think liberals believe that having an affair is ok?

Bill Clinton's supporters weren't too upset about his, uh, extramarital activities. John Edwards didn't ctach much heat after that affair was blown wide open. In fact, in both instances...the left circled the wagons and declared that their private lives were, indeed, private...until the next guy busted for an affair was a Republican.

I'm betting there are more members of congress who have had extra marital affairs than not.
No big deal.

It is a surprise that he's straight, that's for sure. The "right-wing" consciousness is decidedly disturbed--unbalanced and unnatural, really. And so it makes sense that most of these guys are not so much homosexual, but deeply conflicted about it as well. Hence, the public bathroom fetishes, the meth massages from male prostitutes, young male pages, etc. Good "out" homos like Barney Frank at least can walk in the daylight, look in the mirror, make good or bad decisions--as a real man, not a creeping fraud--like the vile GOP closet crew (Rove, etc). Ensign too can say, "Hey, at least I like pussy"!

Edwards was the presumptive nominee for Attorney General until his affair became common knowledge. In the case of Bill Clinton, I suspect his high approval ratings had more to do with the economy and the perception that the GOP was overplaying the "scandal" for their own gain than any tacit approval of adultery.

What about former NY "Guv" Spitzer ? Hell we could play this stupid game all day long--fact is all too many middle aged guys get to "wandering" be they politicians in government or construction workers. Political leanings don't have a hell of a lot to do with it--and of course neither does goodness. Some work it through with their spouses-some do not. Also some step down from their positions and some do not. I say give it a rest.

Check the eye-popping stats that reflect a 20-1 ratio of rightwing pervs versus normal hetero crooks like Ensign. And, twitter sources from Tehran suggest an even higher rate among bunkered Libertarian survivalists.

You are correct in saying that which side of the aisle one sits on has no bearing on likelihood to have an affair.
But when one side of the aisle claims moral supriority & uses that claim to push through legislation that denies rights & privileges based on their system of morals....that's different.
Perhaps he or you or any of you other right-wing whackjobs can explain how homosexuality had anything to do with Ensign's crumbling marriage. TIA.

You're confused, D-go, it's the
type of affair we're talking about--and how Ensign proved an exception to the typical right-wing closeted perv MO. Demos and progressives--like the former mayor of Detroit (nuff said) are not in any way to be compared to the warped and dented inversion of consciousness represented by John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Dick Cheney and other twisted malignancies like J. Edgar Hoover and Karl Rove. The aisle makes
all the difference!!!
