Recruiting is what it takes to win, especially when going up against Meyer, Saban and LSU, and recruiting is what Tennessee hired Kiffin to do.

This thing with Berry's little brother is obviously just a "feel good" PR move, for the benefit of Eric Berry and Vol Fan.

Exactly. Also, Wake Forrest offered Chris Leak a scholarship after older brother CJ signed there in 1998. I think he was an 8th grader or Freshman in HS.

If the guy hasn't even started high school yet, how do they know he's the "elite academic material" that the Furd demands ?

They can give a verbal offer at any point. The written offer can't be given until junior year.

And the verbal offer is worth less than a wooden nickel.
