found my OU/Notre Dame shirt from 99...

"Tradition by Definition"

i remember that game like it was yesterday.

there was an old ass usher..had to be in his 80s...he said it was the first and only time he had ever heard Notre Dame boo'd coming out of their own tunnel.

Also, there was a kid that got thrown out for having a sign that read...

Norman
Beats up
Catholics

then saw him 3 months later at the Independance bowl lol.

i also still remember the goosebumps i got from hearing the ND marching band coming thru the campus and to the stadium.

gotta make it back there...think we go back in like 8 yrs?

Worst roadie of my life!!!

The Wateford (sic) Estate magically lost my reservations... after confirmation. Some how my visa still was charged for them.. weird... fucking bastards. Spent two nights with two other guys crammed in a ford Explorer during a fucking blizzard. I didn't see not but a handful of ND decals or anything identifying with the fighting Irish... nothing but Cub, Bears, and White Sox tags, decals, and car BS everywhere. I hope South Bend falls into Hades and the students die of VDs..

It's a two-game series in 2012 and 2013, IIRC. Don't know which one is home and which is away, though.

hard to believe that game was 10 years ago. it shows how far OU had fallen that Sooner fans (myself included) are weepy about Brandon Daniels KO return for a score in that game. that we could even throw a legit counter-punch was remarkable to us after Blake. 99 Sooners had no D.

an interesting sidebar to that game was Stoops first choice for OC was Kevin Rogers at Syracuse (who coached Donavon McNabb) and wanted a run-pass option game. Rogers took a job at ND with Bob Davie and Stoops hired Mike Leach. Bob Davie is doing TV and Stoops is making more money than God with 7 top 10 finishes in 10 years and 6 Big XII titles.

yeah, Brandon D, DeMond Parker, Kelly Gregg and others were sad casualties of those years.

if Parker stays for 99, we don't pull the redshirt on Quentin Griffin. which makes him a senior in 03. Kejuan was a nice back but Q toting the pill in 03 with Jason White's deep ball is scary.

edit: Parker made a real mistake not staying for 99. but, can't blame him much at the time....after the series of dipshit football he was a part of at OU. another new coach, Leach coming in as OC etc. now, had he stayed he would have gone for 1000+ and been on Sportscenter enough for an 8-9, maybe 10 win OU team and with better draft stock. Demond was a great back.

Wow. I always told a buddy of mine that if Davie had promoted the WR coach to OC, he would have won a national championship and probably still be coaching ND today. That WR coach? Urban Meyer.

Funny story from that game. At halftime, Davie addressed the ND players about the shitty first half they just played (I think OU was up at the break) by yelling; "You guys are embarassing me! You need to put in a better effort in the second half and stop making me look bad!!!" He left the locker room and a defensive lineman named Brad Williams stood up, looked at the room and said: "Fuck that guy. We need to go out and win this game for ourselves!"

I know you guys hate Urban Meyer...but his book Urban's Way details a lot of the ND experience and how Holtz and Earle Bruce are his two biggest influences...

I would agree Killian...if Davie promotes UM...forget about it...

I work with Malcolm Johnson (well he is on the West Coast)...cool cat...he was recalling a story that him and Derrick Mayes were reliving...he says they both feel the ND game in 95 won Eddie George the Heisman!

I loved Malcom Johnson! He was money in 1998 and had the record for awhile of most consecutive games with a receiving TD. Next time you talk to him, ask him who's call is was for Jackson to take the safety at the end of the 98 LSU game.

I may hate Urban Meyer, but I'd break my own fucking leg to make him the next coach at ND.

that sounds a lot like the stories you hear from former players (esp. those recruited by McCartney) and people around the program after Rick Neuheisel's tenure at Colorado.

I usually agree with your ND posts, but I have to disagree on this one. If Meyer were to win at ND in the same manner he has won at Florida, it's not what I want to see. And it probably would've gotten him the boot by now, even with two national championships under his belt. I'm pretty sure ND's fanbase would tolerate an arrest or two, particularly if the football discipline had come down in a relatively swift manner, or there was a general consensus that the athletes in question either had been railroaded or the authorities had come down upon them too harshly (see Chad DeBolt, Kyle McAlarney). But what is he up to now? 25, 26? That's Fulmer Cup material there.

I'd rather see the football team go 3-9 every season into perpetuity than see us become the Miami Hurricanes, circa 1980's -- 1990's, North.

i miss the thin stripe on the pant but i don't remember the "Oklahoma" on the jersey in Stoops Year 1. i also still like that flat enamel crimson on the helmet more than the metallic bass boat look. *and* a Patrick Fletcher sighting. hehe.

I'm sick of losing and looking like ass in the process. ND teams have been soft since the end of Davie's tenure, and it has continued on through Weis. Maybe Verduci and Hart can change that.

Meyer hasn't been a saint, but neiter was Lou before he came to ND and even while he was at ND. Many fans (including me) have warm and fuzzy feelings about the Lou Holtz era, so we look over the dismisals from the team and some of the behavior exhibited by the players (Stonebraker, Tony Brooks and George Williams getting suspended for the '89 season is just one example). Meyer has stated repeatedly that ND is still his dream job. Were he to take the position, I think many of those things would be toned down.

He may be an asshole, but he is a stone cold killer. He doesn't want to beat teams, he wants them to be sorry they even played Florida. ND needs that again. Plus, for all of the shit in the news, the NCAA hasn't been sniffing around him like they have some other coaches.

It would take some getting used to, but Meyer would be my first choice to take over the program.

I feel so bad for that kid having to have played under Boo Blake. Everyone makes a big deal out of Boo and him recruiting a bunch of kids on the 2 deep from the national title team but Jeebus Brandon Daniels at QB instead of WR, Roy Williams at RB instead of SS, JT Thatcher at RB instead of FS, and I could go on with a list of them. The man had no clue where to play kids.
